I'm wondering what speakers for a PC/Mac provide insane bass? I know those ~$250 logitech ones are pretty damn good, but I was wondering if there is anything more cheaper/same price range that provide better bass...any speaker enthusiasts, let me hear ya!!

I wanna blast "Killa Cam" to the highest volume possible without hearing bass distortion

The bass is going to wind up overpowering your other speakers in the system.

True, I also don't want this to happen. I need clear bass hits while the song can still be heard.

We throw a lot of parties at my house and the speakers I currently use are not that great at all, only have 2 sat's and a sub. Need something to bang n get the hoes dancin!

Klipsch 400-watt computer speaker set-up with a powered subwoofer is pretty hardcore.

my cambridge soundworks dtt2500 has too much bass...even when you set up only 2 speakers and the sub.

but it sounds great for a 5-6 year old set!

Two of these

and

One of these.

Gets the job done VERY nicely for me and my band with plenty-o-bass!! (I can't imagine how cool it would be to game with them hooked up to a PC.)

Hmmm. I think I'm going to take our PA over to my house for Christmas and get my game on

Oh yeah, they'd kick butt for you doing house parties too. We run a CD player through our mixer board in-between sets when we play gigs and they do AWSOME with music.

Crystal clear highs and excellent bass response both so loud you won't be able to stand being in the same room with them (if that's what you want). Each cabinet recommends minimum 500watts to drive them an they'll each take 2000watts peak.

infinte baffle baby...there is no substitute

Wrong. There are plenty of substitutes. Infinte Baffle aka Acoustic Suspension enclosures require HUGE amounts of power, relitively speaking.
A properly ported (tuned) bass reflex gives a smoother response with less power. A labyrinth enclosure develops even lower frequencies.

Check out ANY pro- sound or studio monitor enclosure. Most of them are Bass Reflex.
There is a studio in France where the designers built a Labyrinth UNDER THE FLOOR. They drive 2: 36 in diameter subs with a 10KW Class A amp EACH.
HAH! Now that brings new meaning to the term "Boom Box"

With the proliferation of Hip Hop / Rap stlye of music, manufacturers have even shifted the Bass Frquency contour (or 'Q") from 100 - 120 hz down to 30 - 50 hz. That is a more whole octave down. This is why speech sounds funny when listened on the radio. Our voices do not reproduce anything near that lower range, thus requireing a drastic re-eqing of a system that will be having Voice and music played through it.

To answer the question, get a 10 or 12 in subwoofer and place it in a corner of two adjacent walls to allow the room to act as the enclosure. This is what Klipsch did with the KilpschHorn.

SVS sub, used monitors/bookshelf and used receiver/amp.

you're all set.

Now if you want ULTIMATE BASS then you need to open that wallet.

hehe sounds like you need the 7ft bass bins/enclosures we got in our union standing next to those things on full blast will mark your heart go dicky. they are powerful!

have you considered maybe going the car audio route? you can mount subs like that into custom enclosures, or even fit them into your floor/walls (so long as you house can stand it lol)

the more you get into being an audiophile, the more you relize that having good highs and mids are more important.

actually the advantage of an IB sub is that it does not require huge amounts of power and that you can bring the driver to full excursion using minimal amps. I recommend you do some more research on what an infinite baffle sub is ... then come back

an IB has totally different power requirements than an average Acoustic Suspension enclosure. In order to effectively model an IB the volume of the enclosure approaches infinity...so there is no loading of the driver as it is in the sealed box...and the power requirements are therefor much lower.

feel free to play around with unibox or winisd to get a feel for what we are dealing with here. My pair of atlas 15" drivers are powered by a adcom gfa-545 and you are more than welcome to stop by to witness for yourself how little power it takes for these guys to rattle the walls.

you can find more info over at AVS or the cult

also...placing a sub in a corner is not always the best solution..sure you get room gain of about +3db, but it can also make the FR quite bumpy...which can make the sub sound one noted. the only way to truly optimze the output it to measure the sub in different locations and pick the one that has the flattest response...then go from there.

there is a harmon paper that is an interesting read as far as the optimal locaion for subs.

If $250 is all you're going to spend, those logitech speakers are about as good as you're going to get.

Of course the sky is the limit if money isn't a concern.
