Illinois ain't bad. Its cheap to live here as long as you aren't in a metro area.

I live in Illinois, Wheaton area and its F!@#$!@# expensive.

Well, you are in the burbs. Champaign or Bloomington are much, much cheaper and have good schools.

Arizona. Tucson, nicer than Phoenix and the UofA is there.

I like Arizona a lot. I have family there so I've spent quite a bit of time in Phoenix. Even the summer heat isn't that bad since it's so dry. Plus the other 9 months of the year, it is 70 degrees with sunshine and blue skies. And although it's a desert environment, it's not just flat. There are actually mountains and some nice scenery. Great place to live if you like being able to golf and swim pretty much all year round.

If there were good jobs and housing was cheaper, San Diego would probably be my first choice.

I have family there as well. Ususally I get down there twice a year. I wouldn't leave if I could do my job from there.

After 22 years in IL, I am really tired of winter.

NYC. or as close to the North East as you can get.

the rest of the country blows. except for maybe select areas of the West Coast (Seattle, Portland, San Fran/Silicon Valley).

New Hampshire kinda frightens me (so does Maine, but Maine isn't as bad and it's further away). my dad's family lives in NH, by Mt. Washington... they sent me there every summer as a kid (until I was 16 and started working). it's like this bastion of hickdom in the North East.

I've lived in New York and now Virginia. I really like both states. Both have big cities (NYC and Washington DC is close enough to VA), wilderness (Adirondacks in NY, Blue Ridge/Appalachians in VA), and enough beaches for me (Jones Beach, Sylvan Beach in central NY and obviously Virginia Beach in VA), all 4 seasons, both have awesome schools.

New Jersey sucks.
Tennessee is great, but was not a lot of money when I was there four yrs ago. Might be different now.

the only good thing about Jersey is that you can have your picket fence and SUV, and still be close to NYC for when you can ditch the kids with a sitter.

but you're also going to be paying half of your salary in car insurance.

I second that motion

New Jersey sucks

Gotta agree with that. I'm outta here as soon as I can go.

Otherwise, from your basic list, I like OH.
