I live in Madison WI, and would like nothing better than to leave. Been here all my life. Yeah, the town and the area are nice, but the insane local government, the higher-than-needs-to-be property tax, the cold winters and humid summers dont add up to number one for me. Both the wife's family and my family are here, and the wife wont leave. Ever. Personally I'd move south or southwest. However, given the 4 choices in the original post, well as you say they are all about the same - I think you're just screwed.

We have the option of moving anywhere in the country.... proximity of family is just one thing to weigh.

What about the whole "we'll rule the state how we want. Fvck the Constitution" issues that have been ravaging the state for years? That's another reason to hate Cali.

It's hard to say a whole state sucks.... I have lived a few places, and I think I prefer TX the most, but that was the DFW area... I heard Houston just sucks, and Austin isn't much better, but I really like DFW area, but I was in the far subarbs also. Out of the five states I have lived in I have fallen in love with Florida and can't wait to move back. After reading some of the posts Arizona sounds pretty interesting too, though with the mild winter climate and mountains, etc.

Also, there is great skiing within an hour (2 different slopes.) You have forest, clean rivers, desert in the east (I love camping in the desert), some ok beaches and good surfing if you know where to go. If you have an active life style this is the place to be.

Also, there is great skiing within an hour (2 different slopes.) You have forest, clean rivers, desert in the east (I love camping in the desert), some ok beaches and good surfing if you know where to go. If you have an active life style this is the place to be.

It's a few degrees here from being a virtually PERFECT day.
