What temp is my Q8200?

Q8200
Gigabyte UD3P
8gb Ballistix 4-4-4-12
Xigmetek* s1283 w/Arctic Silver 5
9800gtx
Corsair 450vx
Vista 64-bit

The case is open and my room is kind of cold- it's like 35* F outside, probably 52'ish in my room.

I just put this PC together last night, my first quad. (yes, I know the multiplier sucks but it was only $115 shipped after Live CB on eBay and hopefully the UD3P can push it to 425+ FSB).

At idle, I get these temps:
20c - BIOS
35c - RealTemp
40c - CoreTemp
40c - SpeedFan (it's measuring my +12v at like .58v...)
40c - HWMonitor (also measuring my +12v at .58v)

The power saver thing is still active letting the CPU clock down to 1.99ghz when not loaded.

Under full load with the new Prime, I let it run 15min (@ 2.33ghz) and CoreTemp showed 50-54c across the cores. I immediately restarted and jumped in the BIOS and the temp was dropping from 23c down to 20c.

Any ideas?

I think RealTemp would be the closest to accurate, but someone might have to correct me on that.

For the 45nm chips, yes you are correct sir.

Thanks for the replies.

How hot is too hot for a 45nm quad?

The Intel website shows my Q8200's thermal spec at 71.4c.

With help from the GIGABYTE Forum Moderator "Lsdmeasap" at TweakTown.com, it's sitting at 49-55c @ 100% load across all the cores (using RealTemp) running Prime95 v25.6 for quads with the "maximum heat" setting. It's been running for just over an hour now. What I'm assuming to be the NB and SB are at 36-39c.

CPU-z shows:
2.975ghz @ 1.232v
425 bus (1700mhz FSB)

The Intel site shows 0.85V ? 1.3625V for the voltage.

Do you guys think 475 fsb (3.325 GHz) is doable?

I'm also thinking about lapping the heatsink and buying new Arctic Silver 5 as the one I used was almost 2-years old sitting in the fridge.

I'm also not sure If I applied the AS5 correctly. Just as I was about to follow the directions from this one site that showed placing two lines on the aluminum between the copper pipes, I checked youtube and this one guy just used his finger in a Ziploc to spread it over the IHS. So I ended up doing that AND a couple line on the HSF...

If you want the correct info on using AS5, then go to their website ....

For the short time I was able to keep mine stable at 3.0, its was 67-73 at full load @ 1.325, but on a cooler designed for a QX6700, which puts out s lot more heat. (and noiseier than I can stand)

I have an Xgmatech coming...

Hey, just wanted to post a screenshot...I'm excited, this is my first real overclock.

Screenshot

The hottest core hit 56c and the coolest 49c with a 100% Prime95 load.

Though I'm curious, how much V-droop* is normal? Before I stopped Prime95 it was at 1.216v and it's now at 1.264v.

Speedfan and Coretemp both read the same on my system, I would use one of those since they read the temp directly from the die. (I like Speedfan because of the graphs, and it tracks CPU fan speed as well).

Anyway, those are great temps, I wouldn't worry about it as long as they are well under 65c.

As far as vcore, it goes UP? Or is that a typo... Mine varies about .016v (1.224 idle to 1.240 load), the steps seem to be .008v .

No, the Vcore drops under full load. At idle it's at 1.264v, under 100% load it drops to 1.216v. I think I read somewhere my motherboard has some sort of anti-V-droop setting...guess I'll have to read up on it.

I just got three Q8200 for free so I kept one and gave the other two to friends. I did a quick test of all three of them at stock with a first gen Core2Duo HSF and two of them hit 85-88 on Prime and the other wouldn?t go over 80, so I kept that one for myself. I?ve been using AS5 for all of them, though I have a huge tube of ceramic, maybe I?ll try that later.
My system now is a P5K-E running 400fsb, 2.8GHz voltage (auto) 1.222-1.232v on Scythe Ninja 2x 120mm one blowing down and one sucking out, Lian Li V2000 case (sucker fits a dozen HDDs!). I can get it to 450FSB if I o/c it in windows, it would run prime fine, but wouldn?t boot at certain FSB, so I think I?m leaving it at 400 since its pretty rock. My idle realtemps for 53, 50, 59, 60. Load of prime maxes out at 77.
One of my friends is running it stock right now with a P5N-E SLI. It doesn?t officially support the chip, but it seems to be running ok. Voltages are a little high on auto, 1.39-1.40, I think he should try and manual lower them to the lowest he can get stable. At idle he?s getting 67, 56, 57, 59 on idle and 78 on prime load, on a Zalman CNPS 8700. My infrared thermo shows the buttom of the heatsinks reaching to almost 60, so contact should be decent. Anyone have pics of how thin a line I should be aiming for with the AS5? Probably lap them heatsinks too as i have a boatload of sandpaper lying around.

I dropped my vcore to 1.15 and it jumps around 1.152 and 1.16, but temps went down to 50,46,54,54. My friend's P5N-E can't seem to supply less than 1.2-1.25v as any setting below that it just stays there. Turned on all the speedstep, c1e, got it down to 57, 46, 49, 50.
