I was told back in January I'd be getting a promotion effective 1-February-2005. Obviously, that date came and passed. I'll I've heard is excuses so far as to why it hasn't taken effect. "The budget lady's retirement threw a wrench in the works" "We had to push somebody else's visa paperwork" I've asked about it a few times since then after seeing my paystub still at my old pay rate and I get more BS. In the meantime I've been relatively lethargic at work.

I've been trying to find new work locally but microfabrication isn't exactly a hot job around north Alabama. Moving isn't out of the question but trying to drag my wife away from her job isn't going to be easy since she loves it and likes living near her parents. My question for the ATOTers is: What would you do if you were me?

Cliffs: I'm getting fvcked and there's nothing I can do.

At least you're getting fvcked (by the wife). If you make her move, you might be more distraught over not getting fvcked.

What? And only 530 posts since 2001?

You need to post more.

Depends on where you are in AL and what the wife would consider close.....

Actually it doesn't. Before you go to work one day say to your wife as nice as possible "listen b!tch if I don't get a raise today we are moving wether you fvcking like it or not.

Remember to where your casual friday clothes (boxers and flip flops) to work. When you get there tell the boss "listen motherfvcker if I don't get that raise you promised me and my b!tch are out of here and we are going to rape both your dog and your mom on the way out".

Update us on how it turns out.

Jeez have people lost the balls to try and achieve happiness for themselves?

I live in the Huntsville area. I should mention it used to be OK but the longer I'm here the more I see that I don't like. This has pushed me over the edge. Of course I'm trying to achieve happiness for myself. However, I will not compromise my wife's happiness as she's capable of making my life much more miserable if her life goes sour.

I would poke your boss some more. Was there a written agreement that you would be getting that promotion? If not, word of mouth doesn't mean jack sh|t and you got no proof he promised you anything (which in this case, you should proceed to burn down the company office space style !)

Nothing in writing. He just told me straight to my face. I'll watch said film this evening for inspiration.

Maybe your boss is testing you to see how much of a man you are? If you are a good hard worker you should go in there and tell him how you feel. Say something like "I was promised a raise 6 months ago and have yet to see it. I'm sure you know how frustrating it is to be promised something and you wait and wait and it never happens. I enjoy working for this company but feel disrespected, so if I?m not getting the raise just tell me straight out.? ?end ZetaTalk

I had a meeting with my boss on Wednesday and here's what happened. He flat out told me the paper work for the raise couldn't be processed until 1-September-2005 for whatever political reason. He then told me that he was quitting and moving west to a job he had been offered. Since he's pretty much the one that runs the show, that had me a bit concerned. He said the group might be consolidated with another one or could continue under another person's direction. He made it clear to the higher ups that whatever happened it would be a huge mistake to lose me and then "sweetened the raise" to compensate for that.

He'll be leaving in October so things will get really strange really quick and I can't decide if it will be better or worse. I'm thinking the money will be awesome and if they hand over control to the person I'd prefer things would be great too. I spoke to my prefered candidate today and he assured me things would "be the same or improved".

It's not going to happen. He's on his way out, anything he said to the remaining/incoming management will be ignored completely. Besides, that asshat had 6+ months to get it done and did nothing.

You will have to confront whomever is put in charge, within 1 or 2 days after he leaves, inform them that you were expecting (not promised), an elevation of position and a wage increase.

Inform them that the time has passed for those expectations. They need to be implemented now. Or you walk. You're spouse will just have to accept that.

The raise probably won't happen, but this will prepare you to better negotiate your salary for your next job.

Don't be afraid to be a prick, that's the best advice I can give you.
