Whats a good cable modem ?

I'm about to get cable internet access for the first time and I do not want to pay the $150 the cable company wants for a modem. Can someone give me an idea of a good cheap (under $100) cable modem ?

I usually see CompUSA selling Toshiba modems, price... don't remember. Go to their website to see if they have any deals going on now.

I have a Motorola Surfboard, it works great contingent upon the damn cable company and if they are slow that day or not.
