I would wait for a decent pcie 3.0 board if I was about to upgrade because you have room to upgrade down the road to ivy bridge.

I think gigabyte is about to release the first pcie 3.0 1155 board in the next 2 weeks

we dont know much about BD but we do know that 2600k sandys clock like mad and are a very good bang for the buck once you clock them up.

socket 2011 is extreme and will be out of 90% of people price range and I dont think we will even see a socket 2011 computer ever hit retail stores.

Those boards will be over 400 each and the chips will start at 500 and go up to over 1000,so what you really need to look at is how well BD will run and compare it up to a pcie3.0 1155 setup

Thanks for all the input, I think im going to sit tight, and try to make it to Black Friday, if not atleast wait for these pci 3.0 1155 boards and watch for deals on cases/psu's ect.

BD may or may not have price/performance that is significant, but I agree.

Given what we know, just get a 2500k/z68 and be done with it. You'll be glad you did

This. I went from a Core 2 Duo 6400 to the i5 2500k and they're worlds apart. Worth every penny. Can't go wrong here.

I went with a 2500k system and I'm glad I didn't wait any longer. I say buy whatever is best at the time. BD may well be worth the wait, but sandy bridge met all the goals for a system I wanted, that my old phenom 965 did not. Namely, I wanted a smaller system and there is much more choice among matx boards for intel, I wanted quieter system, sandy bridges aren't really super cool when o/c but they do have a much higher heat tolerance. LIke it or not, intel boards also are way ahead on sata performance, especially with the sata 3 ports. I don't see things changing with BD unless alot more boards come out that are better than the 990s that are out now...Hopefully a new crop of amd boards will come out by years end. Last of all, finally with my new system I have a desktop that will go in and out of s3 standby like it ought, without issues and workarounds. There may have been certain ones that worked well, but for whatever reason this has been a big issue in the past for me with amd chipsets and boards.
