Whats "RPC" WinXP Pro problem.

Hi.
A friend just got a ADSL line, and every 5 mins after being connected, it comes up about RCP or summit and it auto shutdowns in 60 seconds. And he can`t get rid of it.
I installed ZoneAlarm for him, and it went away, but what is it? Just for curiosity.

Blaster worm. Do a virus scan and get to patching that system (windows update).

I updated Norton for him yesterday, and it still does it, did a complete scan as well. The only way to stop it is to have ZoneAlarm running.

It's also worth investing in a 4-port NAT ethernet router. Not only will it allow him to share his broadband connection with other computers, but it also protects him from unwanted connections reaching his computer.

I dont think he has that sort of money to spend. Hes not exactely a tech head like most of us here, and wouldnt be bothered.
His motto is "as long as it works...".
ZoneAlarm is running and preventing the error from coming up, so hes happy, and the blaster worm fix from symantec didnt pick anything up.
Its working, for now.

you can get em for $20 sometimes in the hotdeals forum.... probably cheaper in the fs/ft

He needs to go to Windows Update and get all the patches. The one for this particular issue is MS03-039.
