What's the deal with Americans and Cubans? Nobody ever understands a situation unless they're directly involved. Anyways, the Ireland situation dates WAY back in history long before many people that are alive today were even born. It won't change overnight but yeah, it's silly and stupid...just like any other X vs Y conflict.

Some people just aren't gonna forget. Reminds me of an argument I had with some Lithuanians-they remembered every single bad thing done to their people for the last 500 years. I was left speachless, what can you say to someone who is still upset by my forfathers burning down some village in the 17th or 18 century? My question isn't What the hell is up with Ireland? It's a religious battle and I personally think that God is disgusted with the whole thing.

My question is: What the hell makes Clinton think he can fix things over there? I mean, does he actually think that after hundreds of years of fighting and thousands of attempts by others to make peace that he of all people holds the magic peace key? Does anyone else think it's not only pompous but insulting for him, an admitted adulterer and outspoken opponent of the Catholic belief system, to step into the middle of a religious war which has been raging in another country for centuries? If I lived in Ireland I'd fight just to spite him!

I beg to differ that the Northern Ireland issue is still a religious war. For hundreds of years it was. If it still was, England would have given in by now. Today, this conflict boils down to money and the wealth of offshore oil along the coast of Northern Irland. You don't hear much about the oil in any of the discussions on the conflict, but what this boils down to today is that Northern Ireland wants the oil money all to itself and the crown sure isn't about to let that get away without a fight.

The situation in Northern Ireland is alot more complex than the average Joe Citizen knows, based on what information he has been provided by the media. I am about 85% Irish, 10% German, and 5% Scottish. Needless to say, I am very interested in what happens over there. I do have some distant relatives there and I plan on visiting Ireland someday. There is no single cause, and no easy solution.

Well, when Cromwell and the Puritans executed the king Charles I and got rid of the monarchy and so called "purified the Anglecan church", they also got rid of the Catholics. Then Cromwell took over N Ireland and declared it protestant. However, over time, people realised how stupid the Puritans and Cromwell were and reinstated the monarchy with Charles II as king. Then you got France and Louis XIV who revoked the Edict of Nantes and got rid of all the Protestants. Just another reason why religion should NEVER become part of the state.

However, after a while in England, James II I believe was a catholic king. When he had a son and baptised him catholic, parliament said no no there. They sent for William of Orange too come in and take over. William came in and kicked out James II without any bloodshed. That is why they call it the Glorious Revolution.

If the Orange Order is celebrating the fact that there was no bloodshed, then more power too them. However, this isn't the case. They are basically just rubbing it in that they are Protestant and the Protestants won in England. And parading through Catholic neighborhoods is just plain stupid. It is nothing but macho crap.

I'm 75% Irish and 25% German,

yes i drik and fight with the best of them.

But im also american, and after years of following the whole northern Ireland thing, I still dont understand what all the fuss is about.

My residential block here in Ohio must have about 20 different religions on it, we are Democcrats, Republicans, and Independents, we come from all over the world, and never has a fight or disagreement broken out due to any of theses reasons.

Now why cant the rest of the world be this way? Or am i fortuante to live in a community decades ahead of everyone else? because thats what it seems like when i hear of all the stupid things going on in the rest of the world.
