What's the best solution?

I have a router in my basement, and on the 2nd floor of my house, the wifi is absolutely terrible. I'm sick of it and want to do something about it. I have three solutions I can come up with:

1)I drill holes through my floors and drop a weighted wire through the holes
2)I run an ethernet cable outside along the wall with the sat TV cables
3)Use my old router as a bridge

Which sounds like the most effective? If #3 would work well, I'd most like to do that. Obviously, it's the easiest to set up. If you guys have any other ideas, I'm willing to hear em. Thanks in advance.

(3) is the simplest and may be worth trying if your 2nd floor stuff is all stationary (i.e. no phones/tablets/laptops). If not you have to run it as a repeater/bridge or just repeater which cripples speed.

Otherwise buy this AP and wall-mount it at 1st-floor level at your basement exit (probably just inside the basement). It comes with a POE injector so all you need is a sufficiently long ethernet cable to run from there to your router.

How high is your house? Most likely this is the issue at hand.

I'd agree that 3 is the best option. Get an old router and turn off its DHCP/routing capabilities. I think one Cat 6 cable should suffice, since not many houses are 100m high.

The wire solution will work and will be the best solution.

Wireless solution (Bridge/Repeater) you will have to try, any stories that get online can Not really predict the outcome in your specific environment.
