Stop looking for something that "tastes like real beef", because that's a fool's errand. Look for a patty that is tasty in it's own right, and there are so many varieties available now that you can find whatever's best for you.
That said, I really wish Smashburger would sell their black bean burger patties direct, because they're great.
Morningstar chipotle black bean burgers are decent.
Why can't vegans and vegetarians enjoy the flavors of the food they eat for what they are? "I'm a hipster vegan. Ewww, eggplant is gross. Can you do something to change the flavor of the eggplant to make it taste like a steak or something?"
The problem is that if you grew up eating one kind of food but want to change your diet, you want to do it as easily as possible. That's just human nature.
I grew up eating meat at almost every meal. Plus, since I live by myself, I either have to eat out, nuke something or cook pasta. I don't have a lot of options. I do buy vegetarian frozen food but there's a limited variety and not all of it is that great.
