What's up with my E6400?

It looks like the IHS is curved or beveled on the sides. Is this the case with all Core 2 Duo CPUs?

I've never had this CPU installed, and only ever took it out of the box this one time. Am I just seeing things?

It probably is concave. Alot of them have been. But, you don't use your eyes to tell whether they are, or aren't; you use a straight edge.

Yeah, it's normal, lap it or sell it, that's all you can do...
Mine came in perfect shape so I can't complain...

Seems to me that somthing like a concave IHS constitutes a factory defect & should be Intels problem not yours ... I'd be interested to know what Intels policy
regarding this is.

I have somewhat of the same thing on the corners. I'd be more worried if the middle was concave.

I don't think he's asking about concavity or convexity guys. To answer your question, Ryan, your CPU is normal. There have been reports of beveled edge IHS's as well as "sharp" edged ones. Can't find the thread atm, but there was a big discussion about it a couple weeks ago at Xtreme forums...

Thanks Freak and everyone. That's the answer I was looking for-- now, the more important question is probably, as Madmax implied, how much is this going to hurt me? I'm not in a mad rush to OC, so with stock cooling at stock speeds I'm assuming it'll be fine. I'm gonna contact Intel and see what they have to say, and then look for that thread at xs.
