klah, Your Mac has problems. I have an OLD Quadra 700 68040/25 that I keep around for the fun of it, I copy files on it all the time and much larger than your 17Meg file and it many times faster than that and remember it has the OLD Slow SCSI Drives. Mine is much faster with an old 100 MB SCSI ZIp than that and I can use Netscape and Icab at the same time. It not a flying machine but a lot faster than what you are saying. My old PowerMac 8500/120 would blow that thing down and it's half the speed. Something has to be wrong there somewhere.

And by the way, I am a PC person but use macs along side of the PC but with OSX I am starting to use the Macs more and more!!

The My freelance gig in front of a Mac trolls appear in virtually every discussion about Apple Computers. The troll claims to have witnessed <the latest Apple hardware> taking 20 minutes to copy a 17 MB file from one folder to another and proceeds to question all Apple users as to their platform choice. It is a straight forward copy-and-paste from a weblog entry by Jason Kottke.

Because there are already 42 threads with this same subject from this year alone. Each of these threads has the same arguments posted ad nauseam. It is certainly easier to read one of those 42 threads than to have people repost the same material here for the 43rd time.

Yes, but unlike the the AMD's they're still not on par. Macs are pretty much OS dependent, one good thing of OSX is how effecient it is at using it's available memory.

I get what you're getting at, I get frustrated at the same thing, but trolling the thread isn't helping it die.

I was just pointing out that paying $3000 for 2.5GHz isn't really paying for 2.5 GHz from Intel...but yeah their processors still don't quite compare.

wow no one has answered the question.."whats wrong with macs?". Ill answer it again, NOTHING!

PS. What makes a Mac a Mac is the OS. I hear IBM will be bringing their PowerPC procs to PCs!. Though stick with my Athlons. Also what would happen if Apple made OSX compatable with the x86s?

mac's are "OK" if you want to be a little different from 95% of the pc users and yeah they are Overpriced
and they are not as fast as some people think amd-fx 55 or an intel 3.8 with a nice G card and ddr 2 will smoke any mac at anything you can think of.
Oh ant that os x i realy hate that there is no right click.

Bill Gates would be sh!tting bricks, that's what would happen. God, I would love that though. Macs are simply kick-ass. Hardware design is superb, and OS X is very intuitive, thorough, and mouth-watering eye candy. The only drawbacks are the price and the lack of games (I don't even play games)... I don't think anybody who's into computing (computing, not using a computer to play counter strike) and has used many OSes would flame Macs like a lot of you guys, and I think a lot of people believe they are limited because they don't really know how to use them and it's their skills that are limited, not the OS. Klah, you're talking about Macs that aren't even from this century - they have come a LONG way... let's not even get into Windows 98. Windows - yes, even XP, and especially SP2 - sucks ass. Too bad it's monopolized personal computing and you need it in one way or another (though I'll only use it maybe once every 2 weeks... yay for Linux =D)...

1. The dock sucks.
2. Customizability, or lack of. I will admit the new iMac actually looks like a very good office machine.
3. Speed. Single G5 < Athlon, P4.
4. General GUI. MS could do better, but it's hardly counter-intuitive.
5. Apps & cost. Everything I use daily that I rely on, not counting games and desktop shell, is available for a variety of platforms, and works similarly on any (OpenOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, misc. text editor or ten, image viewers and simple editors, audacity...heck, DVDShrink is about the least reproduceable one!). Therefore, the cheaper and more available, the better. In such a case, Windows + x86 comes out on top (games, litestep), with Linux + x86 second.

However, I will say this: if Longhorn is to be more like XP, OSX and Linux will be looking better. Windows 2000 > Xandros 2 > Windows XP.

I used macs before I switched to pc.

If theres one good thing about macs (old macs) is that they are less prone to crashing then windows

Fixed. 2+ years before a single crash, here. 4 mobos (3 chipsets), 4 video cards, 5 sound cards, 2 monitors, 5 mice, 3 opticals, at least 3 HDDs (maybe 5, though)...a single blue screen. Then I reinstalled.

:heart:Windows 2000:heart:

When and if Macs get all that bullsh!t most people have installed (by OEMs, or installing themselves) on their PCs, it will be near as bad. At best, they will be quad 4GHz PPCs with like 16GB RAM, and run like an original Pentium. Sony, HP, Dell, and malware vendors are far worse on PCs than anything else.

This is an ethusiest forum. Where people like to be geeks and learn how to hack their computer, program things, and play games and hack them. Also hack movies to copy them and whatever else. The PC has a lot of freedom to do what developers and software engineers enjoy doing. Making this thing do what they want.

Macs are limited to the non developers and the non ethusiest.

That's the difference. You will never see a developer start off with a mac. PC's are cheaper first of all and you learn a lot more when you build one yourself. you can also program it with various programming tools. Macs has very little development tools. Not sure why but i can only think that maybe a mac is just difficult to program in.

so
PC's = Developer/Ethusiest/gamers (who become developers eventually)
Macs = Users who can't get that blinking 12:00 to stop
