Whats wrong with this PC?

I have an older computer my girlfriend uses for the internet/email/msn. It is a Dell Optiplex GX1. It's a Pentium III 500 MHz (Slot 1), 384 MB Ram, 6.4 GB Hard Drive, Integrated Sound/Video/LAN.

This is whats happening..nothing.

You turn the PC on, you see nothing. You hear the harddrive kick on but then it does nothing. The monitor's light just blinks like its in stand by mode. There are no beeps when the PC is turned on. I have reseated everything and same problem. I tried harddrive in another machine and its fine. I can't even see the bios. Nothing happens when its turned on
Any ideas what may be ailing this PC? I would like to get it going ASAP

Heh - I have about 10 of those in my storage rooms right now, but I don't have any ideas on your problem. Let me know if you find you need a spare part though

I hope my motherboard on it didn't go...stupid custom Dell cases/motherboards...I really can't afford to replace her stupid PC

Back on subject, try a different video card? Make sure the monitor cable is plugged into the video card? I have a similar dell and its screwing up also. I also get no video and I can hear the fans and drives start up. The weird thing is, when I plug in the p7 cables that come from teh psu, the system won't boot. :\

Like I said, I can probably set you up with a replacement part. Is yours a desktop chassis or small tower?

Could be a RAM / processor issue. If you can, try swapping them out with equivalent hardware that you know works.

well Ive got a slot 1 Pentium II 333 sitting around. It should work on this motherboard to test if the processor is bad or not correct?

The system board sounds like the it is the culprit. I would imagine you find an older system board on ebay or here for about $50 bucks. I would imagine a processor would exhibit this problem all of a sudden.

most dell have those diagnostic leds.. see if you see them around.. sometimes u can look up the codes

Remove and replace the CMOS battery than reset the VRAM
