I remember the old optical mice were pieces of crap... they would just randomly "jump" to another part of the screen... do the new gaming mice (MX510, MX518) also suffer from this?

Mine never has, although my friend's cheapo Logitech optical does.
The MX mice have a problem with WoW though.

mx518 > mx510 (not much though)
It has higher dpi than the mx510 and you can change it on the fly, otherwise it's the same mouse.

Don't like the 310 personally. I think the MX300 was really good. A lot of CSers prefer it. If you have smaller hands it works well. I think while MX500 allows u to have ergonomic design, I still respond very well with the 300. I personally like the 500 and 510 and 518

It can help... but if you need a new mouse to "pwnz0r teh n00bs" then you probably won't benefit

Still using my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0A

A) why would you want to change dpi on the fly (mx518)
B) anyone use or have used a wired ms intellimouse 3.0/4.0? how's it compare to the mx510/518?

I just got my mx510 in the mail today... So far I love it. It was quite a bit cheaper than the 518 (I couldn't justify spening that much on a mouse). It is replacing the cheapest possible optical mouse I could find at PC club ($7 I think - needed it to get an OEM copy of windozer). I don't think my pathetic CS:S skills have improved, but it is definately more comfortable. All those buttons are great too! Too bad I cannot set one of them to skip tracks and such in media player...
