None of you people mentioned the fallout series?!

How can you call one of the best selling games of the year, which you can still find on the shelf at best buy, overlooked?

The sales statistics for a variety of other titles may surprise you. Fallout and Fallout 2, which are considered to be two of the best RPGs released in recent years, sold approximately 140,000 and 120,000 copies, respectively, in PC Data's tracked data. Very good sales, especially since the overall figures are likely double those amounts, but considerably below the sales volumes for true blockbuster titles.
Here's a sales chart which shows that Fallout sold more copies than "Planescape: Torment"!
Baldur's Gate (all formats) 500,000
BG expansion pack 156,000
Fallout 144,000
Fallout 2 123,000
Diablo 1,300,000
Revenant 37,000
Darkstone 75,000
Ultima IX: Ascension 73,000
Planescape: Torment 73,000
Something I haven't expected, but hey, who cares! Thanks to Cerial for pointing this to me

BTW, I've been playing Outlaw on my Xbox via c64 emulation.

Have to agree, it's right up there with Chrono Trigger and FF6 in my book. So overlooked when the SNES was on the shelves, but when people went back to compile their Top XX lists it really started getting the props it deserves. If there was a GBA version of this I'd be $150 poorer.

How can you call one of the best selling games of the year (oh, wait, I meant OF ALL TIME), overlooked?

You're telling me that Fallout 1 and 2, which combined sold approx. 270,000 is not overlooked while a game that sold 1.5 MILLION in Japan alone is overlooked?

Hello?

My friend and I played "Bubble Bobble" all day long on the NES, I don't know how over looked it was, but I am one of the only people I know that has heard of it. "River City Ransom" also was a great game, we spent hours on that also. I really enjoyed "Faxanadu" and "The Legend of Kage" both for NES. I guess I spent a lot of time playing Nintendo when I was a kid...As for recently, I really enjoyed "Freedom Fighters", which is semi overlooked in my book.

Hello?

I was under the impression that SoM (SD 2 in Japan) tanked in the U.S., while doing really well in Japan?

I still play Total Annihilaion.. 7? years after it came out. It beats the crap out of the AoE series, IMO
Also Phantasy Star2 for the Sega Genesis - awesome for a 2D classic rpg

I remember PS2 being so far ahead of its time as far as RPG is concerned and also pretty darn difficult. Nintendo had Dragon Warrior at around the same time which is no comparison.

Other overlooked games:

Warlords - Atari 2600
Jackal - NES
Sacrifice - PC (the critics loved it but noone went out to buy it, Warcraft 3 stole from this game too)

Man PS2 . . . that brings back memories. I think it took me 60 hours to get to the final castle on the moon (60 really enjoyable hours) and then I just hit a brick wall. Man that game was hard, even harder then the 7th saga in my opinion.

Well, if you ever get back to it (the genesis emulated one is nearly perfect btw) you can go through the last castle fighting enemies without losing much health, technique points or a single healing item because you want to save all of that for Dark Force & Mother Brain (I believe after defeating DF you can get back out of the castle and replenish then come back in for MB). There are certain armors/head gears that could be used as items in battle (thus can be used infinitely): there's two useful 1) heal your entire party partially 2) put shields for your entire party.

Dark Castle for the Mac.

I've never owned a Mac, but my friends owned one and had this game back in 1985-86 or so. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Although it was in black and white (as all Macs were back then), the animation and sound were revolutionary.

Probably the game I spend the most time on would have to be FF7, but obviously that's not the most overlooked. In that category, I would have to give Vagrant Story for the PS1 the award for MOST FREAKING AWESOME OVERLOOKED GAME EVER!! And for anybody that has played it, I made myself a Damascus sword with 4 of the best blades (can't remember name, found em in some secret dungeon on 2nd time through) that had 100 in every class affinity. Saw the Ultimate Sword How-To online and took it to heart! WUSSUP!

I loved Wild Arms for PS1 as well! Bought that one, Wild Arms II and Legend of Legaia for like 25 bucks on AT FS/FT and Ebay.

Chrono Cross. An absolutely stunning game by square, yet it didn't get nearly as much hype as FFT and FF7-9 did.

TimeSplitters 2. One of the best multiplayer (and even single player) FPS out there. Not as good as Halo, but the graphics are really nice, and it is an AMAZING game. Plus its only $15. Yet, no one plays it.

Chrono Cross(PSX) was SH1T!

Crono Trigger(SNES), on the other hand, is one of the greatest games of all time.

agreed.

10 yard fight(NES)
Secret of Evermore?(SNES)
cant remember the name i have it home though
Keystone Kapers(Atari)

I bet i'll be the only one with this game, because unlike most people i owned a Sega Saturn, instead of a PS, and UNLIKE most people i bought:

Three Dirty Dwarves....

I suggest if it's possible that you find it and play it, it's just a lot of fun

Streets of rage with a weird kick of dwarven mayhemm...it's nuts

Edit: Also much props to Skies of Arcadia (DC, though i hear GC one is good too)
ALSO, Grandia 2 (DC) was great, heard PS2 version sucked

Not sure how popular it was, though most people I mentioned it to didn't know of it. Full Throttle. Short, and pretty easy game but it was funny.

Seconded. I'm praying a GC version comes out. I was really looking forward to Earthbound 64, shortly before they cancelled it. (since it relied on the 64-HDD and that was axed as well)

Anyone remember Return Fire? I've been tryna find that game everywhere either for PS1 or PC.

Return Fire was the greatest, if you ever find it, pm me where you can get it... I've looked as well.

As for games, Metal Fatigue for the PC (RTS kinda like Red alert 2, but better IMO). Carmageddon for the PC, and Destruction Derby 2 for the PC, of which I still listen to the soundtrack.

You too? Rock on!

Yeah, I used to throw it in when I played Shadow Warrior. Much better music, though the last track on Shadow Warrior was freakin' hilarious.

That was a great game! Crystal quest, Dungeon of Doom, Warlords1 and Robosport for mac were pretty good too.

I'd have to add:

Solaris: Atari 2600
Pirates!: Mac/PC (wasted away my childhood playing this one)
thief 1/2: PC
