What's your mid life crisis car?

Just trying to make a lighthearted thread.

Mine's a F10 M5. Some nice ones are finding their way under $30,000. M5's are rare - I've gone years at a time without seeing one in the wild. When you pull up in an M5 it says something besides "midlife crisis", I think.

Don't laugh but mine is a daily driver. 4 years ago I switched from an old, reliable Honda Accord to a 2014 BMW 328i.

I've toyed with the idea of picking up an old 2003 530i if I could find the right unicorn, but it's probably a terrible idea. I wouldn't want to own a money pit like an M3 or M5 unless I win PowerBall lol.

Do it! E39s are some of the more reliable older BMWs you can get. I would have grabbed a 530i if it was possible to find one with decently low miles and in good shape with a five speed. I ended up with the M5 instead because they were all bought new by old dudes who babied them and never drove them. Easy to find a good one, plus they’re all six speeds which made the search really easy lol. I bought it as a daily in late 2019, hope it lasts to 400k miles like that one that sold for $12k last year.

Those E39s are beautiful. Clean examples of that series M5 have gotten off the chart expensive. I saw one listed for like $50,000 not too long ago. Regular ones seem to be affordable.

The early 2000s 911 were pretty affordable, last I checked. Of course - that was before Covid screwed up car prices.

Because it's a Volkswagen. Years ago, it was my dream car. Especially after RUF got done with it.
I admit they are still nice cars but like all German cars, get rid of it before the warranty expires. Unless you have Jules money.

The syclone / typhoon were the s-10 Xtream, lowered and tuned suspension, that was actually very good for the time with turbo 4.3 v6. Pretty quick.

Dodge had the bumblebee ram, don't remember the engine specs. It had a spoiler on the bed and looked very dumb.

Ford had the svt lightning with a 5.0 in it? Supercharged maybe?

I already have my mid-life crisis car: A 2018 Ford Mustang GT. Not exactly practical for Connecticut weather, but it's more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

But I guess a small manual convertible to have fun for one-day or weekend trips within the country would be it, as it's the opposite of the comfy/automatic/decently-sized cars that I normally use.
For going on longer holidays abroad I usually make use of the extra space though, and automatic is comfy for traffic jams, and I can't help but think someone would slice through the soft-top in bigger cities on the mediterranean.

I don't actually drive these days (just don't have a need for it), but if I were going to get a car for this role, it'd be an EV. Realistically something like an 'entry' Model 3 or Mustang Mach-E, ideally something like a Porsche Taycan.

It might be my psychological compensation car, but I still want it to be eco-friendly! And besides, EVs have instant torque that makes them quick off the line.

I've driven a pickup most of my life. We've owned BMW's on/off since the 70's, as well as a slew of other vehicles, but my daily driver was almost always a pickup.
We had a C-Max hybrid...nice enough car. Ran well, handled great, just too small to be comfortable for long drives.
Our only vehicle nowadays is a 2019 F-150 Lariat 6-1/2' bed, 3.5l twin-turbo v-6. Handles like a dream, gets around 20 mpg...VERY comfortable for long drives.

The two supertrucks I remember in the early 2000s were the SRT10, which was basically a Ram with a viper engine in it, and the Ford Lightning, which was an F-150 with a cobra engine in it. The Lightning could be tuned crazy easily, just add a pulley on and you could run something like 11's or 12s at the strip in it.

Not sure yet what my midlife crisis car will be. I'm 32 and just bought a brand new truck. I'm guessing I'll probably want a true mid life crisis car in a few years, but I keep thinking about picking up a dirt cheap miata and dropping a V8 in it. That might happen in the next 2-3 years.

Many things went wrong with it, whenever I went on vacation with it (lost an indicator, it leaked coolant out of the cap, dog ran into it, engine cover wouldn't latch, radiator cracked, someone scratched paint on the rear clamshell, window regulator mechanism slipped...I guess that's it?), it left me stranded once, and probably cost me more in repairs than in fuel. Combined with maintenance, easily, at least.
Buuuut - nobody slit the roof yet, not even in Croatia, streetparked in Pula (why would you anyway? There's nothing in the cabin....), and frankly, by now, that's the least of my worries. A new roof can't be that expensive I'm much more worried about the front and rear glass, or a major clamshell issue. Or an engine issue. Or an alternator issue.

So anyway, just mid life crisis things, eh?

I was thinking more about Marseille or Napoli. Maybe it's an unwarranted fear anyway, since I also don't leave anything visible in the cabin, and such a car is harder to strip for parts.
