These carp are edible (smoked carp really isn't THAT bad) and there actually is a
market for them. But the problem doesn't lie in harvesting and finding a use for them. If we could we'd just net them all and grind them into fertilizer.
The problem is they have no natural predators and are reproducing at such an alarming rate that no one has a sound option for stopping these things. None of the river's predatory fish will control them and they're taking food away from forage fish, dropping other species' populations. I'm dreading the day when I catch/snag one or worse get hit in the FACE by one boating out on the Mississippi up here.
EDIT: Never thought about bow hunting for them although lots of people shoot 'regular' carp around here when they spawn. I should plan a trip to a section of the Illinois river this summer
