When is Vista SP1 coming??

This release of Windows has been codenamed Longhorn for a long time, they just shipped the client (Vista) before the server (Server 2008)

Having done this game for a really long time, I suspect the order will be Server 08, XP SP3, Vista SP1. Server 08 wiil force some compatibility changes to XP that a SP would address. And MS does not do multiple SPs at the same time that I remember. And I have not even heard hints, so anytime this year is wild speculation. It takes about 4+ mths of beta/rc to roll one. Since a signup has not been sent out and that takes 2 mths before we see anything, it is already into Jan 08 before a release.

Also, with security patching and update, the need for immediate SPs is greatly reduced. This is not NT 4 days where SP1 was required to fix NTFS.

what he said. and whatever is going to be in vista's sp1 will likely just be security fixes. i still dont have any bugs or problems with the OS itself...

About what? Can you show a list of bugs that you need fixed in Vista that aren't currently available via Windows update?

This whole service pack concept started before Windows Update pushed critical fixes down to users as needed. At this point they are a convient placemarker to add new functionality and provide a roll-up of all older patches.

But without providing a list of what fixes or new functionality you're expecting, it's hard to see why it would make anyone feel better.

I do! I have been using Vista Ultimate for 6 months now and have a no major problems with hardware compatibility and some minor quirks with older software but to be expected.
