The pro-vaccine nutters would have people blindly believe that if you are vaccinated you "can not" contract the disease. Which is a flat out lie.

I don't know where these pro-vaccine nutters have said that vaccination guarantees you ''can not" contract the disease, but your own link says that the vaccine is greater than 99% effective. GREATER THAN 99%! That should be reason enough to get vaccinated since the disease is highly contagious and an unvaccinated population would mean the disease, complications and deaths would return to levels that existed prior to the existence of the vaccine.

Since when does society have the right to tell someone what they can and can not do with their body?

You are not allowed to put a bomb in your body, and explode it near others. That is because you are not allowed to impact others.

You are not allowed to get drunk and drive, because it might impact others.

You are not allowed to jump off a building, because you could impact others.

You are not allowed to fly a plane into a building, because it might impact others.

Double entendres are fun, but I think my point was made. You cannot do something with your body, when it impacts others who have not given consent. Ill grant you that there are laws that were passed not using this argument, but the purpose of such laws is supposed to be that you cannot do something to someone with out consent.

If the parent chooses not to vaccinate their child that is their business.
It's incredibly stupid, but there are lots of stupid people around
However, don't run to the hospital when it happens

I agree.

If a parent is stupid enough to trust the scientific expertise of Jenny McCarthy, they should be allowed to be that stupid.

What they shouldn't be able to do is then enroll their germ farm into public schools.

So the worst case scenario is a new brand of measles, one that we all can contract. Doesn't sound too pleasant.
On the plus side, it probably wouldn't take long to vaccinate against new strains.
And just think, if everyone's vaccinated, that means you've got a ridiculously small population of the pathogen. It's tough for a pathogen to evolve into a new strain if it's dead.

Also: Who gives a rat's ass if a vaccination isn't 100% effective?
"Hey, great news! I can cut the mortality rate of this disease from 1 in 10 to 1 in 50,000! There is also a small chance of a reaction to the immunization, so there could be another 1 in 50,000 chance of dying because of that."

"So as many as 2 in 50,000? Until you can do 0 in 50,000, piss off! I'll stick with my 1 in 10 death rate, thank you very much."

Parents need to be educated on the dangers of improper nutrition. Especially in light of vitamin A deficiency, children are thousands of times more likely contracting/dying from measles. I also have less problem imposing this awareness before allowing their children's entrance into school.

In fact, I'll bet a diet rich in vitamin A would (virtually) eliminate measles from the lexicon of developed societies such as ours. Cod liver oil pills {high in both vitamin a and d} might be all it would take to reduce measles, and even rickets. Vaccines have done far less to eradicate disease than has improved access to: nutrition, clean drinking water and modern sanitation.

The link to measles virus infectiousness in regards to vitamin A deficiency was firmly established long ago.

Really?

When do we stop providing welfare to lazy people?

When do we outlaw male gay sex? Gays make up the highest percentage of HIV cases. Spreading a deadly disease affects everyone.

True. And there are thousands of communicable diseases for which there are no vaccines, so this medicinal myopia is just plain silly.

Vaccines are great, but there shouldn't be any mandate requiring them.

Yes they are.

The pro-vaccine nutters would have people blindly believe that if you are vaccinated you "can not" contract the disease. Which is a flat out lie.

A 1979 WHO study found that the normal incidence of measles in susceptible children was 2.4% but in vaccinated children the rate was 33.5%. A report from a 1985 Immunization Conference showed that 80% of measles occurred in those that had been vaccinated for measles. In 1992, the FDA noted that 95% of measles cases had been vaccinated for measles, making these children carriers of the disease.

The measles vaccine was introduced in 1964...

Currently around 30% of measles cases have complications and death only occurs in .1% of reported cases. In fact, measles are way more severe in malnourished children, particularly those with vitamin A deficiency, which could even lead to blindness. Therefore, my best advice would be bolster your children's natural Th2 immune response with nutrition and natural supplements, irrespective of any immunization, vaccination or innoculations... use Pubmed to guide you.

And for God's sake, use common sense when your kids get sick, keep them home. Stop waiting for some magical panacea to fix all your ills and problems by relinquishing your personal and parental responsibilities to some agency.

It's a bit like face palm city in some cases in here.

The specific claim regarding measles is laughable and clearly contradicted by the observable evidence. Basically, Scandinavians in the past tended to consume plenty of cod liver oil as kids (and often into adulthood) in the past, yet there were still plenty of measles cases there during the period and this number only started to drop with the appearance and deployment of the measles vaccine. In your scenario practically no-one there should have been getting measles in the first place.

To be clear, its not as if people could not get an acceptable diet in the US and western Europe for example at the start of the 20th century, yet it was the appearance of vaccines which dramatically reduced the spread of these diseases. (You might be more likely to actually die if malnourished, but that's not the same thing and its still far better not to get sick in the first place.) Basically you're at most talking about a limited benefit versus most of these viruses from sufficient vitamin A and D which you might be able to detect with enough research (with any real relevant benefit being for diseases we can't so easily vaccinate for)

It is not a matter of "being wrong with people", it is a matter of others not respecting "my body my choice."
And since "your choice" may well endanger others, you are willing to accept the consequences of your decision, right? For example, your children might not be allowed to attend public school.

If your choice can impact others in a negative fashion and people do not consent to it then fuck your choice.

Or the people who get vaccinated and get deathly ill for 3 weeks.

I was one of those people and I swear to GOD I will never get another one!
After taking it the area gets swollen rock hard and kinda hurts. Then you get what feels like a cold. Then shaky. Then the chills. Then sneeze and eyes hurt in a well lit room.
Then your bones hurt then you have a fever then the vomiting then the dry heaves then it feels like your soul is being sucked from your body and death approaches.

I'd rather take a bullet to the head than to take another vaccination.

The other claim against getting vaccinated is how it is produced and not even talking about mercury yet.

When you design a drug(this is a newer debate) that the person who is the test subject is who that drug is designed for. Even though we are all human beings it is a known fact that drugs designed for a black may be bad for asians. A drug designed for men would be very bad for women.

With that in mind if the drug works on an asian then perhaps the percentage of mortality rates would be higher among whites than for blacks or vice versa.

No such thing as a neutral human to test drugs on that would be good for all humans.

If the drug was tested on a black person then that drugs should only be given to black people.

It is only common sense and even a 60 minute report on drugs given noted that medicine tested for men should not be given to women but the NOW movement who want equality would cry sexism when in fact FEMALES ARE NOT MALES.

Equality is sham when it comes to medicine and the findings are proving that right.

When I traveled to Tanzania several years ago I got 7 vaccines in one day, had a slight fever, headache, and joint pains for a day then all was normal.

Vaccines I received:

Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Typhoid
Cholera
Yellow Fever
Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP) booster
Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) booster

Being in the military and working/traveling worldwide I've had many of these vaccines 10 or more times.

Smallpox may have killed a lot of people, but at least the people who survived were not jibbering drooling morons who think they're so damn smart. For those that do not wish to be jibbering drooling morons who lick the boots of their corporate masters and love every last drop of it, there are many types of vaccines that can be obtained either without mercury or with much less mercury. But you have to do some work to obtain them, which obviously requires that you not be a jibbering drooling moron.
