the demo version sucks as it would only let me burn at 2x...Are you dealing with a cd with known copy features on it? I beleive there is a frontend program for cd-clone that can try to identify the security on the disk, if any at all.

I used the clone cd program to copy one of my PS disk it failed to work while as nero 5.0.4.4 did it perfectly...
