...ATI is going to outsource their graphics card production and center on chips....

From what I've heard a graphics card maker that got on the wrong side of nvidia( you know whom )
will be producing the cards that ATI will sell to oems. They are already looking for oem integrators
in different countries who might be interested in using oem ati boards on their systems.....

<< I was wondering when (if) ati was going to release a card that would allow higher resolution (digital) tv viewing / capture. Something like the 8500DV + the Hauppauge WinTV-HD board. Has anyone heard anything? >>

Funny you mentioned that. You realize that nVidia and others have had a Janus (chip used in all the HDTV tuners) based videocard/hdtv reference design for years, it's just that they're all intimidated by the MPAA not to market them. I own a WinTV-HD, and if you follow AVScience Forum, someone has just figured out how to downmix the saved ATSC transport stream (up untill now, only playable on a full HDTV card), to standard MPEG2. This means we'll be seeing full unencrypted HDTV in all it's glory in DIVX/Mpeg4 all over the net.
This is exactly what the MPAA feared would happen, and it has come to pass.

Unencrypted HDTV's days are numbered now. The push for a standard, copy-protected output (firewire) is in full swing. I fear that everyone's current HDTV tuners will become obsolete in a few years and we'll all have to start from scratch.

ATI offers great hardware solutions, its too bad that to actually use these cards you have to put up with Lame Ass half baked Drivers. Windows XP is new, so one would expect to have drivers released more frequently than bi-monthly.

I have had nothing but grief with my ATI product since upgrading to WinXP (it worked reasonably well under Win98 SE). The quality of the XP drivers (open GL and Direct X) is poor at best.

If ATI wants to be a success they better quit pissing off people with sub-par drivers.

I would not recommend ATI over Nvida to anyone at this point in time (despite owning an ATI card) unless they are only interested in 2d or DVD playback.

Ive got windows XP and have had relatively few problems. I dont play a ton of games, Deux EX, RTCW, NFS 5, etc. No problems there. Havent tired DVD yet.

I will agree with most of you though...they need to have driver upgrades a lil more frequently and they need to boost up the performance/eye candy features better than what they are. Supposedly our RV200 core is a bad @ss core that isnt being used to its full potential yet...so when are they gonna get off their butts and give us 75% or more of its potential?!?!?! Or is it all hype....

I wish ATI would release drivers more often too, but its just not the way we do things here. When we finish something, we finish it right, and just don't do it to please people. Apparently nvidia isn't caring, and just releases drivers that cause more problems then they fix.

I'd rather have them not release so many drivers if it means the ones that do come out are great. Hearing all the stories of which nvidia drivers to use seems like BS.

Well I dont know about that. The latest ATI drivers, 6011 and 6018 have caused me more problems than what they fixed....course, thats me. I know with these radeons it seems like its hit and miss...some people no problems. others..problems. But ne wayz, im content with my 3286's

I think the people who believe microsoft like Nvdia are wrong - microsoft as well as intel are scared of nvdia - they are both burning money quite quickly and are both keeping a watchful eye on them - hence why intel wont give them a liscence for the P4 bus
