I was going to buy the Dell 2005wfp (16ms response time) which is currently on sale for $550 CDN, but then I saw the Acer AL2016W (8ms response time) for $360 CDN and I can't see any reason to go with the Dell, even though I know the Dell is the most commonly recommended one on these forums. I'm mainly getting it for gaming and movies, but of course I'll be doing websurfing, etc on it as well.

Any reason to get the Dell? Are there any other monitors I should be looking at? Unfortunatly a 24" is beyond my budget.

I hear the Viewsonic VX2025 widescreen has good image quality. Avoid the Dell 2x07 series if possible. Maybe someone else can tell you more about the two models you already mentioned...

A good reason to get a Dell is that if you look in the right places, you can find dell deals like crazy. It's not uncommon to see a 2005 going for $400 US. Plus, Dell FPs use Samsung panels, so you know they're going to be great quality.

Other then the banding problem the 2007fpw is a bit better then the vx2025, better viewing angles and slightly faster response time. There was a review that compared both but i cant seem to find it again.
If it wouldnt be for the banding i would get the 2007, but since it bands like a mofo avoid it at all costs.

VX2025 for $408 cdn

The BenQ uses a TN type panel. Its 8-bit, and a decent panel, but the viewings angles won't be as good as the ViewSonic VX2025, which is an MVA panel. Given the small price difference between the two, the ViewSonic has the better panel and is the one to get

In the U.S. at NewEgg, the BenQ is selling for $294, while the ViewSonic is $350, so the price difference is much greater.

Thanks for the info. Shoprbc.com, which is a local shop here in ottawa, has the acer for $360, the benq for $400, and the viewsonic for $500. Ncix.com has similar prices for the Acer and Benq, but the Viewsonic is only $420, but then I'd have to pay shipping and wait for it to get here.

I don't care much about viewing angle since I'm only going to be looking at it straight on anyway. Is the Viewsonic better than the other 2 in any other way? Anyone know the panel of the acer, which is the cheapest?

Its so strange how dell fell from the cream of the crop to just plain average, i guess they need to have better deals+rebates because at there current pricing its nothing any other competitor cant match. But i feel that even with these price drops the VX2025wm is going to be a very strong contender at only $350.

I don't think Dell was ever "cream of the crop" at anyhting, at least not in my book. The only reason the Dell 2005FPW was the choice monitor was because it was the only 20" widescreen available aside from the way more expensive Apple 20" Cinema Display. It's a decent screen for the money, that's about it.

Yeah but I would have to pay shipping. RB computing is here in ottawa so I can just go pick it up.

Well, I finally broke down and bought a LCD myself. From here on out its no more CRTs. After alot of reading from various sources, including Anandtech, and my own personal needs I chose the Viewsonic VX2025WM. The NEC sounded really nice but I needed something a little cheaper since I got three other CRTs to replace eventually and a new build planned later this year. FedEx say's its in Texas now and will arrive my house tomorrow. I ordered it from ZZF for $344. One place had it $10 cheaper but never done business with them so stuck with ZZF for this order. I'm expecting good things from this baby so I'll let y'all know how it is after I had a some time to try it out.
