which is the best brand, or at the very least, which of these would you buy since they're all the same price? rosewill, gigabyte, apollo, XFX, chaintech? all seem to have a mediocre software bundle. OR spend an extra $9 to get an MSI? one to look out for?

Leadtek, MSI, EVGA, ASUS, BFG.

I have heard a few people who have had ramsinks fall off the bfg.

I would stay away from PNY and XFX.

I've got the XFX card and it too works great, no complaints at all.

And I ask again like I have in other threads - who has actually had bad experiences with XFX? Because the posts are always "I have heard XFX is a bad company". Maybe I got lucky with my card, who knows. But there's too much second hand information.

Anyways, I bought in Nov. when my only option was XFX - if I bought now I'd get the MSI as they've got quieter fans.

And then, just like any upgrade, now I'll have to start looking at what else is going to need upgrading on this dell in order for it all to work. (power supply, probably. right?)

Happy with the Gigabyte SilentPipe VP model. Very quiet because there's no fan. It has fast memory (1120MHz vs 1000MHz), and VIVO.

LeadTek, eVGA, or BFG. My LeadTek has impressed me to no end. Very quiet, and the build quality is superb.

Avoid PNY and XFX like the plague.

XFX - search around these forums, and you'll see their incidence of problems is much higher than other brands. I myself had one crap out on me due to improper manufacture of the PCB and golden fingers for the connector. To be fair though, it wasn't a GeForce 6 series card.

But based on my own experiences and those of others, XFX is bad and getting worse.

I had a PNY die on me after 2 months (Ti 4200), no OC, no aftermarket heatsink, everything stock, and blam...visual corruption like crazy. Add to THAT the fact that people were buying PNY 6800NUs late last year that the capacitors kept falling off of, and you have another questionable brand.

There's a reason XFX and PNY are usually cheaper than the other brands. With computer technology, you get what you pay for.

No problems with my Leadtek, however it comes with a set speed of 500/900 (AGP), but it carries the same chipset as the PCI version which runs at (stock 500/1000) I OC'd mine to 530/1030 with no problems. (heat or otherwise), however, I did run into problems using the 71.xx series drivers. They would run the Leadtek board too hot. Changing to the 76.44 driver cured this. Max temps now are 86'C during Rythbll bench test. 3DMark05 score is 3584 for no CPU OC. Granted this isn't high, but decent for my system.

Okay, Insomniak. Speaking about brands, there's a brand called "Club3D" or something that I see on the Swedish price search engine a lot. It's almost always comparatively cheap, is that something to be vary about?

I haven't heard much about Club3D, and I haven't owned any of their cards. I know they supply cards based on ATi and Nvidia chips (XGI too, but...who cares?), and that they're based in Europe.

Sorry, no help for you here. Perhaps someone else who's used their cards can chime in?

I bought the Chaintech from ZZF for $159.00. It's a nice card. No problems whatsoever. I have it oc'd to 533MHz/1.1GHz on stock cooling.
