I thought sapphire was the best. I got RMA for 6750 in like 3 days and they are right out of LA area back when I ran xfire that's what ppl were recommending and I was very happy.

Do you plan to overclock? If so, then the 7850 @ max OC is within 10% of the performance of the 7870 @ max OC. 10% more performance for 40% more money doesn't sound great.

No it doesn't but I want something heavy just because I'm running 16x by 4x so crossfire is some what out of the question at one point I was with the 5770 but didn't seem worth it. Plus with a 600 watt psu I'm stuck going big or going home. So the 7950 is starting to look good at a price tag of 419

No, you are wasting money on a 7870.

Both O/C to same levels, and 7870 is only about 6% faster clock for clock.

Asus, MSI or Sapphire are the best 7850's as far as cooling performance.

7850. Can't remember a video card that got nearly 50% overclocks or had performance scale so well with clock speed.

I'm going to sell a 570 I got returned from an RMA and get a 7850. The Asus DCU2 looks like the best choice to me.

I have the Sapphire 7850 OC and it OC'ed up to the CCC max on stock settings. I haven't played with it anymore since. I have no complaints about it other than a few AMD driver quirks. I haven't had much of an opportunity to really give it a workout.

What "AMD driver quirks" have you run into?

if you wanna be patient, wait for the gtx 600 series graphics cards to come out, but since you want the 7000 series, i'd go for the bang for the buck and get me the 7850, thats way more than enough than you need for that resolution and it should be awesome to have Crossfire on with it. now you can get the 7870 if you want but i would say save money and purchase some other upgrades instead. (more fans? lol)

I love mine.

Take in mind the Asus model is 2-3 inches longer than other models due to having the same cooler from the Asus 7900 series on it.

If it's not any longer than a 570 it should fit then. I am putting it in an Antec 900 case. 570 is already borderline with the PSU in that system and is surprisingly noisy to my ears, so I am not overclocking it. 7850 should be much better for the system.

he said ultra settings, in case you didn't bother reading the whole 2 sentences in OP.

Rofl.. 7850 does ultra fine at that resolution, it's simply a matter of overclocking a bit.. 7850 is an underclocked 7870 minus a few shaders, that's all.

Facepalm, huh?

Ultra in any game, eh? HAVING to overclock to reach desired performance means so much, amirite?

He said "way more than enough", uh no it's not. Unless, of course, you like playing shooters at 30 frames per second?

Well, I guess you can use blurry FXAA.

Not to mention the only game OP actually mentions:
IGhzI said:
I gotta have the right card for arma 3

Perhaps you have no idea of the monster that is ArmA. Let's look at an older game, ArmA 2, to get an idea of performance from the 7850:

7850 gives an average of 49 FPS in ArmA 2, an older game. The system requirements have increased from ArmA 2 to ArmA 3, from Geforce 7800 / Radeon 1800 to Geforce GTX260 / Radeon 5770 (not to mention ArmA 3 now requires a quad core CPU). What does that mean?

Using our powers of extrapolation, we can assume that the 7850, which produces an average 49 FPS in ArmA 2, will have lower performance in ArmA 3. Do correct me if I'm wrong. I don't like playing at 30-40 FPS, I'm assuming most of us don't, especially not first person shooters. So no, 7850 is not "more than enough" at "ultra settings" for 1080p.

Don't get me wrong, 7800's are great cards, but let's not pretend that they make playable any game at highest details at 1080. Depends on what OP considers playable, and what games he is actually going to play.

Yeah I know arma is a monster.. Waited along time to get a rig just to play it. Then asking in game what cpu and gpu's people were using and taking those results. I2500k gtx570's were the nice combos ave fps about 50 on high settings. The reason I'm using arma 2 as a benchmark it hits alot harder then arma oa which i'm inspecting is how arma 3 will run give or take.

Seems to me the 7950 would be the best choice considering if it does take huge hit. ocing would hopefully put me in the back in the 50 range. I'm only expecting a ten frame hit with arma 3 anyways. Cpu won't be a problem I'm going intel soon enough. Just need the right gpu before switching over since I won't get any boost in performance just by switching cpus when still using the 5770.

ArmA 3 is looking pretty damn good if you've seen screens of it

That I did plus the video of them showing what they improved on.. The ragdoll effect is disturbing but awesome at the same time.

I decided to grab a Sapphire 7870 a couple weeks ago :awe: not really an upgrade from my XFX 6950 1GB, but it does run way cooler, and the doubled VRAM helps in a few games. I can also now turn on MSAA in BF3 without the game becoming unplayable... which is awesome.

I honestly think I'm gonna buy from Sapphire for all my AMD cards now. After the whole fiasco I had with XFX's mediocre customer support, and the fact that my 6950 ran way warmer than I wanted it too, I don't think I want to deal with XFX anymore. My Sapphire runs coooool though.

I'll still buy Asus. One little issue doesnt bother me

Not exactly "little" when it effected all of their cards due to the heatsink not making proper contact with the GPU.

Doubt the batch has fixed this problem either but I have moved on to better things
