Steel Reserve pounders.
Gravity brewed for perfection!!!!!!!!
I'm glad somebody knew the slogan. It might be a little better than "Brace for the smooth taste"
smooth taste? I'd compare it to rhino afterbirth.

Do they bottle that now?
Seriously, a cold 40 doesn't offend me too much. Hurricane, Colt 45, OE, all drinkable if cold. Now, a Steel Reserve, that has to be, like, almost frozen, and the part down by where you're holding it is never drinkable

From Indiana.......
You might be able to get some Goose Island. They make a few decent beers. Honkers Ale is not bad and they make some nice IPA's if you are into it.
If you want to stick with the mass brews, Sam Adam's Boston Lager is nice.

When I see the word Indiana there are two things that come to mind, heap fireworks and Three Floyd's Brewery based out of Hammond.
Three Floyds has quite a selection of excellent brews. I've only had a few of them, so I'll post what I've tried ...
Alpha King Ale, Great Pale Ale
Robert the Bruce, Awesome Scottish Ale
Gumballhead Ale, This beer is frickin awesome. One of my very favorite wheat beers. It's kinda tame, perfect for summer!
They also have one called Alpha Kong that I want to try. It's supposed to be in the style similar to belgian quads.
I'll also recommend Goose Island. They are a decent sized brewery based out of Chicago. Most of their beers don't strike me as being amazing or totally awesome, butt they are all still good, and around here, they only cost about $6 or $7 for a 6 pack of bottles, which IMO, is not bad at all.
If you want to go with an import, Hoegaarden seems to be widely available at most of the Jewel grocery stores in the Chicago area, might be available around your part too. I'd say its considered to be more of a chick beer because it is a bit on the sweet side and it has very subtle hops, however, it's a great beer to be enjoyed. (or the cheaper American made alternative, Blue Moon (not my thing, but the GF loves it), or if you can find it, Mothership Whit by New Belgium brewery is decent (better than blue moon IMO, not quite as good as Hoegaarden.) Budweiser makes a white beer too, I forget what it's called but it has pictures of oranges on the packaging. It's rather weak in flavor, but the flavor is good. My GF really loves it, but I think it tastes kinda like weak orange juice.
One other mention, if you like Dark beer, Rogue Chocolate Stout is to die for, you may have trouble finding it, but of the people I know that have tried it, they generally either place it in their top 5 list of favorite beers, or the loathe it with absolute hatred. And if you can find it, Nogne 0 Imperial Stout is fvcking awesome.
Around where I live, there's an awesome store called DiCarlo Fine Wine and Spirits, they have a frickin awesome selection and great prices (usually cheaper than Binnys and Sams Club. Binnys is a Chicago area regional chain with about 20 giant liquor stores.)
One other mention, if you can't find any of these beers at the grocery store, is there a World Market near you? They usually have a nice selection of brews on hand.
 Enjoy!

High Life and forget about it. Don't go all crazy with nice beers. Move on.
horrible advice. life's too short for crappy beer.
Your short list should include anything from Pyramid, Bridgeport, Widmer, Full Sail, or Rogue. These are all northwest breweries, but I imagine you could find them anywhere if you do a little looking. If you can't then you could always get something from Henry's as they have a wider distribution. Just stay away from their hefeweizen, as I found it too be quite disgusting (although I might just be spoiled on Widmer).
Edit: My favorites-
Widmer Hefeweizen
Bridgeport Blue Heron Pale
Pyramid Summer Ale (for something lighter)
Full Sail Pale
Full Sail IPA (very hoppy and yummy!)

Try dreadnaught, it's there IPA, only available in bombers. It's an excellent beer. Alpha Kong is a good beer, but very very potent It's 15%.
Skip Pride and Joy because it's a bit mild. But if you ever get your hands on a Dark Lord... give it to me sells out on release day. I've had the beer twice because my fiance's family are investors.

Life's too short for queer beers and for hunting them down.
Guys like you are funny when you come into a great local bar, hear great music and then almost cry when you list off 12 beers and none are even in a bottle there.
I am sure secretly Stella is on your short list too like all these other geeks.

Well put Alkemyst. A part of knowing good beers is knowing when they fit the occassion. Just like wine, good beer is only necessary at certain times. You won't catch me with an Okocim Fire or Old Engine Oil at a BBQ.
Enjoy a beer that you can find at a grocery store for Memorial Day. No harm done, we won't tell your beer geeks at the indi bar dainthomas. Get the "its cool to know cool beers" montra out of your head. Its pretty played out.
OP - Newcastle sounds great man.
