i have a socket at motherbaord and i was going to buy a new cpu but whick CPU is better the Athlon XP or the Sempron

They are the same thing really - XP 2500 will be faster than a Sempron 2500, but the architecture is the same.

A faster Sempron will probably be your best bang for the buck nowadays, as the higher model numbers are getting very expensive for Athlon XP.

If you want to overclock, something like the mobile 2400 or 2500 are also great options.
