Ill be getting a PAL 8045 later on this week.. I really want a quiet system, thats why Im getting rid of my current igloo which has about 38db. I have a Sunon 39CFM @ 28db that I could use. I was also taking a look @ the panaflo L1A 24CFM @ 21db, and the Papst 20CFM@12db. I also saw another fan on direction which was 28CFM @ 20db. Which one of these fans would you recommend for an overclocked Athlon XP, keeping noise in mind.

You can't expect to overclock and have a too low noise fan at the same time. The 8045 is a huge heatsink but without adequate cfm it won't do all the best. I have the 32cfm fan from svc that comes stock with it and it's not very noisy and supports my XP1600 to 1.6ghz rather well during the winter time, but I undoubtedly will have to clock down for summer...

Well my Athlon XP 1800 right now is running @ 1.6ghz. Only a 66mhz increase clock speed and the temps are 48C Idle, 50-52 Load. Thats using this Igloo 2300 HS/F. 1.77vcore.

Well my rig runs at 38 C idle and 42 under load. The L1A provides plenty of cooling. I would say the Sunon would be your best bet given the amount of overclocking you do. 28 dBA is much quieter than your current 38 dBA (10 X reduction, mathematically speaking).

Ramo, if the 28cfm@0db fan you're talking about is the Silencer fan, I would stay away from it. Yes, it was quite, and it worked great as a case fan (no change in temps from my louder, higher cfm sunon fans), but it apprently doesn't work to well as a heatsinkfan, something about the way it pulls the air. I noticed no difference in temps of my cpu when switching from my coolermaster hs/fan combo, to an 8045 with silencer. I replaced the silencer with a Panaflo M1A (32cfm/28db), and its still very quiet, and my temps dropped about 5 degrees.

I have a question for you though, you say you have a sunon fan which does 39cfm at 28db? What model is that, I didn't know Sunon made any fans like that.
