I might have bought an iPod Nano - but they are back ordered. I then did more research and have decided that the Creative Zen Video is a better machine - mainly because the rechargeable Li-ion battery is NOT INTEGRATED. That sucks! That means you have a finite life for your iPod until you have to send it in for a battery replacement.

That is a common fault with all iPods. For me, an integrated internal battery is a non-starter.

How long does the integrated battery last?

It should last a year or two... but I've heard horror stories on the 3G iPod battery.

5G is too new I guess.

Find a leather case with a clear front and a hole to access the touch pad. Anything like that should be fine.

And I don't know about the free song thing.

I hate leather.

I meant a protective clear case to protect the screen. thats all.

my dad has had one of the first 3G iPods for years now with no battery problems, he uses it regularly and charges it through the docking station, both my sister and mother have bought iPod mini's, no issues there either although they're not that old. i should be getting my 60GB 5G sometime this month and can't wait.

yes it's a pain that you don't get some things like a mains adapter included, but tbh i don't really care

it's about £40 here to get the battery, another £10 for Apple to replace it for you, £50 and you get another 2/3 years play out of it, not bad IMO

all items with Li Ion batteries will bomb after a while, the batteries just aren't able to cope with the repeated charging/discharging, i have mobile phones and laptops that don't hold charge for a day now cause they're so old

IU looked at all the iPods and others - price was not a consideration. Final decision was the Creative Zen Vision - 30 GB HDD and a REMOVABLE rechargeable battery. All iPods suffer from the same disease - an internal battery - which will steadily crap out after many recharges. (Even Li-ion degrades with each recharge.) So, anything that does not have a removable battery is a non-starter for me. And, one of my principal uses is for storage of large digital imagery files on the road. The Zen Vision is tailor made for that - music is a given - including FM radio.

Small, thin (fragile) size and a "cool" appearance have no meaning at all for me. Function and performance are all that matter.

BTW - I just bought an iPod Nano (black) as a gift for a friend back East. He loves it and I am happy to have gotten it for him.

ipod nano looks pretty neat.

i may get that though I wish it was a tad bigger.

what mp3 sites do you guys recommend?

i know nothing about mp3 files transfering so will the ipod be the best choice for the user friendly area?

Size can go into a factor on how it's function. And for some, how it looks is the whole point.

Agian, if you care about audio quality, you'd know thats a very BAD idea. Taking a song that is already loss, burn to disc and then rerip it then encode it agian (like 20X worse than transcoding) will degrade quality significantly.

Just got my 60GB iPod, black and well, i could tell you what it's like to "experience" but it's an iPod, it's better than anything else for that. the 30GB model is even thinner than this one, which is thinner and smaller than you expect

as for functionality i just plugged it in, re-enabled the "iTunesHelper.exe" service and started to copy my chosen tracks over from my library, couldn't be easier, and asi already use iTunes for music it's simple.

people love to chirp on about the battery life, but i looked at it this way - how long am i going to be spending 20hrs listening to music away from a source to charge my player? answer: perhaps once a month. later on this month i'm going to SA and will want to listen to music and watch video on the 17hr plane ride. for this i've bought a seperate battery pack that takes AAs, i have 3 sets of 2500mAh AAs for my digital camera so i will get close to 80hrs life for music and plenty of video playback. the only thing is that having a removable/user changable battery pack makes the player bulky, hence why apple chose to use an internal battery that will not "crap out" within the reasonable lifetime of the product, this means that they have a 60GB product which is extremely compact and sleek. all Li Ion batteries will die eventually, apple offer a battery replacement service that you will need to use perhaps once every two or three years to keep your iPod performing at it's best. thats not a concern for me, if you plan on keeping the iPod more than a decade then the cost might be a factor to consider...

oh yeah, i could harp on about the screen and the interface but i won't, suffice to say i looked at, and played with, pretty much every mp3 player on the market at the moment and the iPod is the best for my needs.

30 gb, simply because it's a better value. The only things special about the nano are that it's really small and thin, and that it uses flash memory instead of a harddrive. Otherwise, the nano is a gimmick IMO. $250 for 4GB of audio and pictures, or $300 for 30GB of auio, pictures, and video. Which one sounds like a better deal to you?

Sorry, going to disagree still. The files I have ripped from burned Rhapsody CD's sound great and I'd challenge anyone to hear the difference. Plus, you never addressed the whole subscription service point. I'm not saying the iPods are bad players, just that I won't get one because I can't use the subscription based music services. I'm not going to limit my options simply because the iPods look cool.

Well I got my ipod, bought a usb charger and an agent18 case.

Do songs have the habit of disappearing? I got some songs off itunes and I remember playing it on my ipod, but the next day I check the artist and there is only 1 song when there should be 3. It kind of sucks because I got the songs from my uncle who lives in florida so I dont techniclly own them. Also downloaded a trial version of copypod.

I love my ipod, aside from the slightly annoying pause when you browse from song to song..I love it.

Downloaded an episode of The Office and other things.

BTW, how many 22 min episodes can an ipod hold?

When the ipod says 7,500 is the maximum it can hold..is it estimating each song would be 3 mins long? Or....??

An finally, any suggestions on accessories or things I will most definitely need for my ipod?

Thanks everyone.
