Just got my 60GB iPod, black and well, i could tell you what it's like to "experience" but it's an iPod, it's better than anything else for that. the 30GB model is even thinner than this one, which is thinner and smaller than you expect
as for functionality i just plugged it in, re-enabled the "iTunesHelper.exe" service and started to copy my chosen tracks over from my library, couldn't be easier, and asi already use iTunes for music it's simple.
people love to chirp on about the battery life, but i looked at it this way - how long am i going to be spending 20hrs listening to music away from a source to charge my player? answer: perhaps once a month. later on this month i'm going to SA and will want to listen to music and watch video on the 17hr plane ride. for this i've bought a seperate battery pack that takes AAs, i have 3 sets of 2500mAh AAs for my digital camera so i will get close to 80hrs life for music and plenty of video playback. the only thing is that having a removable/user changable battery pack makes the player bulky, hence why apple chose to use an internal battery that will not "crap out" within the reasonable lifetime of the product, this means that they have a 60GB product which is extremely compact and sleek. all Li Ion batteries will die eventually, apple offer a battery replacement service that you will need to use perhaps once every two or three years to keep your iPod performing at it's best. thats not a concern for me, if you plan on keeping the iPod more than a decade then the cost might be a factor to consider...
oh yeah, i could harp on about the screen and the interface but i won't, suffice to say i looked at, and played with, pretty much every mp3 player on the market at the moment and the iPod is the best for my needs.
