I'll spend 300 max for an MP3 player.

At first I was going to buy an ipod 5th generation 30 gig, but I heard there was problems with freezing.

I cannot have a freezing, but these were rumors so im not sure.

What are the pros an cons of an ipod?

This will be my first mp3 player.

Also, is the nano worth buying?
Does that have freezing issues?
I heard the screens are easing to scratch, but wouldnt I just get a cover for the ipod?

I like the Video ipod and everything, but freezing is a major issue to me.

Does this effect every ipod or just the new 5th generation one?

Also, does this same crap happen to the mini.

Which one would you guys recommend as the overall best ipod?

[excluding ipod photo, dont need it]

I will be using itunes and third party software (limewire)

Protection is very important.
Find a quality screen protector for the screen first.
Then a silicone case for the whole ipod

where did u get the rumor about freezing? wat sometimes happens is that the ipod enters standby mode and doesn't wake up. i have a mini 2G 4giga and i freaked out the first time it happened. looked in the instruction manual, did wat it said ( hold the menu and select buttons together for a few secends) and it was fine. don't get nano because of screen probs for now. i do suggest the video ipod. again, remember wat steve jobs said, although it can play videos, music is still first. and that it does well. o, and a case is absolutly neccesary. it will keep ur ipod in good shape. click here for a through review of the ipod 5g and here is a really good site about ipods. I do suggest an ipod. they rock, are cool, and eveybody else just tries to copy them. get it. u won't regret it. and again, it never freezes.

Don't ask for things like pros and cons, really. You won't get anything close to an objective set of reasons.

What people who want an Ipod consider pros, those of us who don't consider cons (FI, iTunes, tag browsing, and the click wheel interface).

While that may not help any in making your actual choice, be aware of that coloring for and against most DAPs, including the iPod, when doing further idea-fishing and researching.

<- happy owner of a 1GB Cowon iAudio I5.

I, personally won't buy an iPod. I ended up getting a creative Zen Micro for my fist MP3 player. Mostly because I don't use iTunes. I've been a subscriber to Rhapsody for almsot 2 years now (a year longer than I've had my MP3 Player) and while the iPod is a great player, it simply doesn't support any of the subscription services.

My music library consists of 350, or so, CD's I've been collecting over the past 20 years (all ripped to MP3), and about a hundred songs I have purchased from various online sources. (Walmart, Rhapsody, one or two from iTunes) In the case of purchased music I always burn a copy to CD and re-rip it minus any DRM, but, there is no work around if you wish to use a subsription service that allows you to download songs directly to your player.

you're not very smart are you? Why would you pay for a song that is in a lossy format? It's understandable to get a lossless format with DRM, then burn to disc and then rip agian but burning a lossy format to disc and then ripping it will only make it sound worse, especially when you recode it into MP3. Either buy the CD or download it off of all of MP3 or a P2p site.

ipod nano, or if you like to watch videos, ipod video....make sure to get the inivisibleshield for it too (you can jab with a key at your screen and not a single scratch would appear on the ipod or on the inivisibleshield, they have a video demostrating that.)

Second the iRiver... get the h10.

The only thing the iPod has right now over the h10 is the video playback, and the so called "better interface." Overall, the H10 has better sound quality, a built-in FM receiver, and is compatible with most music services right now. Plus, it's made sturdier.

Im confused..

Is the ipod 5th generation the ipod video or are they 2 seperate ipods? (not the nano)

Also, I heard the ipod 5th generation does not come with a charger or anything..is this true?
What does it come with?

How much am I going to have to spend to use my ipod properly?

Should I buy a mini? Does that come with more extras?
(is there such thing as a 4th generation mini?)

I like the ipod a lot because of the video feature..and..well..its color.

lol.

HELP.

That doesn't exactly count since it's like 30GB and like what $500?

iPod 5th Generation is the Video iPod...

Minis are no longer in production... don't know where you can still find them...

Well, the Vipod is $300... so yeah it isn't that bad. I still found the h10 to be a better player (tested both out at a Best Buy stand).

Yea I guess your right, they don't make the MINI anymore because it was replaced by the nano... I'd still stay away from the iPod because of the horrendous iTunes software that can apparently delete all your files on the iPod if it crashes or something (at least screw up the MFT).

Well, considering I don't do illegal music, I hate P2P sites, and I'm not paying $15 just to have one or two songs I like, None of those are an option. Also, Most of the MP3's I have are excellent quality. The songs I do own are mostly from rhapsody which does not sell you DRM'd files, but burns the music directly to a CD at the time of purchase. On the ones that I have burned then re-ripped, I personally can't discern any difference in the quality. Even with high quality headphones.

So ipod 5th G is a good buy?

Is it a big step over the 4th G?

This will be my first MP3 player and im a perfectionist so nothing can be broken.

Im also buying it in Florida so if there is something that im not aware of I cannot take it back.

What exact items do I need to buy with the ipod?

Is the nano a video ipod?

Are all the new 5th g ipods color?
Is there a non photo/video ipods that are color but not video??!!!

How much will this all cost me?

Will I be able to use sites like limewire or file sharing networks with my ipod!!!?

You should be able to use any Non-DRM music, from P2P or other sites.

You will not be able to use it with Rhapsody, Napster, or Yahoo music, or similar subsription services.
