If you can get over the graphics, the original is better.

Are you guys sure?

Like what makes the first one better?

Gameplay. Story. More RPG-ish. It came across to me as an in-depth action-RPG, with an incredible plot and locale interaction. IW came across as a console port, simplified for the X-box. I enjoyed both games, but the first resides in my hall of fame.

But the graphics are dated, and it might take a little effort to 'get into' the game.

Original for sure. The graphic difference isn't that huge IMO. You can also get a higher resolution texture mod for the original somehwere IIRC. Too lazy to look it up and link for you.

It's all about the gameplay and story. Deus Ex was the first game I ever felt like I was playing a part in a movie. It's hard to describe what made it so good, because there are other similar games, but none quite got the mix of elements just right.

Deus Ex is the best game ever. Invisible War is ok, but it's buggy and quite short. On top of that they took out a few elements from the original, like skill points and various ammo types.

How long are they "Deus Ex: Invisible War" and "Deus Ex"?

Depends. If you play rambo in both games, it'll be about twelve hours for the original and eight hours for the sequel. If you do all the little miniquests, find most of the secrets, and play the game to the maximum it'll be about twenty-five hours for the orginal and twelve hours for the sequel.

I thought the second DE:IW looked like a crap. And it was such a crappy port to PC.
OP, stick with the original.

original DE......

badass main character? check
great plot? check
great interaction? check
variety in gameplay style? check

the original lets you do a lot of customizing to make your character unique

Great music? Check!
Great locations? Check!

No game with better gameplay has had half as good of a story or atmosphere. And no game with better story has half as good gameplay. Best game evar!

Original by far for me. And for that matter it's predecessor System Shock 2 is still worth replay in my book.

A while back I thought about replaying Invisible Wars before trading it off, and before long I got so tired of the many long drawn out scripted interactions I just started making a stack of random objects in the mall to try and interfere with the security bot routes.

System Shock 2, Deus Ex 1, Vampire Bloodlines. SP FPS gaming done right.

I was going to mentioned VtM:B (post patch) as well. Although not as good as the other two titles, it had the rare of qualities of a) your choices within the game seeming to matter a damn and b) npcs with real depth

there was just too damn much pointless running back and forth in the original . . . and the gfx are awful - even with the texture packs [think worse than HL(1). . . . and DE:IW for PC has mods and texture packs that greatly improve it.

for something completely different - and georgeous gfx - consider Oblivion it's story is more like "thief" series and definitely a hybred RPG/FPS with 400 hours of gameplay.

If you can find the PC Deus Ex: GotY Edition, that would be the one to get. Had the patch that made it playable on Direct3D video cards.

The first one had more replayability as one can change their mold their character far more at least with the skill sets than the sequel which were already maxed-out.

The second one was more player friendly as it was initially released for multi platform. I didn't like the story line.

I still play the first one from beginning to end at least once a year. My best time was just over 14 hrs and my average time at around 17 hrs.
