The 9800 Pro is a better card than the 6200.

or $90 on the FS/FT forums

The 6600gt isnt worth the extra money over the 9800pro. The 9800pro is more stable and has better drivers to boot.

6600gt = ddr3, faster clocks, sm 3, and more transistors. why would you say a 9800 rpo is better?

NV marketing at its best...

Dont get mislead by the name "geforce". A 6600gt is better than a 9800p, but a 6600 vanilla cant touch it, and a 6200 will get slaughtered by the 9800p.

You can usually OC a 6600 vanilla to get pretty close to a 9800p, but a 6200 is completely outclassed here. Unlocking pipes and good OC'ing are not guaranteed, so either get a 9800p, or spend $40 more and get a 6600gt.

SilverTrine, "The 6600gt isnt worth the extra money over the 9800pro. The 9800pro is more stable and has better drivers to boot"

WTF you smoking Nvidia always have had better drivers esp in openGL and that was proven recently in tests easy to find with google, and a 6600GT is at least dx9c and p.s 3.0 has HDR and his PvP will be working for mpeg 2 and 4.

To buy a dx9b p.s 2.0 card in mid july 2005 is dumb, same as your comments esp about drivers, the cards all use the same driver there aint a 6600 driver.

reading this thread and had a few dissagrements with some statments made.

1. Sure a 6600gt has PS 3.0 but who cares when your using a 6600gt? Try using HDR or soft shadows with a 6600gt, youll be at a crawl. Dont let PS 3.0 affect your opinion.

2. Softmodding a 6200 and then overclocking it according to some benchmarks Ive seen will bring it close to the 9800pro, but even then its still not better. A 6200 simply will not outperform a 9800pro.

of the 9800pro and the 6200 I would definatly go for the 9800pro. A 6600gt is not worth the 150 (+/- a few dollars depending on where you shop) if you already have a 9800pro but it is worth the extra 20-40 if you are considering buying a 9800pro.

I agree, the 6600 GT is better than any Radeon 9800 Pro and sometimes even outperforms the Radeon 9800 XT!

^ I said so myself, later in the post that the 6600gt is worth the extra cost of a 9800pro.
I only mean that if you already have a 9800pro the difference isnt worth the cost, you would want to go another step up.
Also just that something like HDR on a 6600gt isnt really worth mentioning if it brings framerates to a crawl anyway.
but if I wasnt clear in my eairler post: The 6600gt is a great card especially for the money, I would definately buy one myself if i were shopping in your price range.

If you can, get a 6600GT, if not, then the 9800 Pro. PS3.0 is not a reason to get a 6600GT either. Getting a 6600GT because of PS3.0 is like getting an FX5200 because of DX9.
