which LCD for 8800GT?

will my 8800GT overclocked be able to handle a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 (21' LCD) with most settings maxed out and AA enabled?...I'm assuming 1920 x 1200 (24' LCD) is out of the question?...how about with a GTX 260 card?

I'd rather invest in a 24' LCD as I don't want to have to upgrade my monitor for a long time and if I get a monitor that 'only' has a native res. of 1680 x 1050 then in a year or 2 when games are playable at 1920 x 1200 I'll have to upgrade again!...a monitor is the one piece of hardware that should not require upgrading every time new hardware comes out...my current CRT is going on 8+ years

Well unfortunately the reliability of an LCD isn't as long as a good quality CRT. Typically the back lighting on an LCD only last between 3 and 5 years. Sometime it is much less. Besides games are playable in 1920x1200. We are at the point in time where higher resolutions go along with larger screens. Now the size screen and resolution of that screen that a video card can support hinges on the amount of RAM the card has. 512mb is plenty to support a 1920x1200 resolution but games will suffer a performance hit at such a high resolution. Just because the 8800GT can't keep up the FPS on a high end game at such a high resolution.

The 22" Samsung's are pretty nice, a 24" might be too much for a 8800GT.

I'm ashamed to say I was still using a flat 17" CRT until a few days ago. It was fine with my 7600gt but I got a great deal on a 9800gtx (not+) a few months ago, which pushed 1280x1024 maxed with AA/AF easy in most games. Then I came across an off-brand 22" 1680x1050 for $121 shipped, so I had to bite.

It's a HUGE difference over a smaller CRT (138 sq in vs 218 sq in). It's like going from a 32" CRT television to a 52" HDTV. My 9800gtx handles everything (but Crysis) on nearly maxed/high settings with AA on just a 2.4ghz X2 w/2gb ram. I'm sure an OC'd 8800gt would do just fine. Though if I had $450+ burning a hole in my pocket, I'd buy the 24" with a "gtx 260 core 216" or 4870 1gb.

22" seems like a reasonable size, 24" is probably overkill.
