I'll try and keep this short. Everything was great until I bought the Dell 30" LCD awhile back, I haven't been able to game since. I had a 7800GTX at the time, upgraded to a 7900GTX and it still sucked. Today a key piece of my dream machine came in stock at Newegg so I pulled the triger and bought most of the stuff I need. Asus Striker MB , X6800 Conroe , and two EVGA 8800GTX's . I'm headed in this direction.
I need a solid power supply now. I know that PC Power and Cooling is considered to be one of the best, and I currently have a 550 watt one in the rig I'm using, but I had some issues with it which is why I'm hesitating on buying there 1KW version. The fan had a loud noise that sounded like a bad bearing or vibrational hum, it drove me nuts. Eventually I couldn't stand it anymore and replaced the internal fan with a high quality one and put a variable speed control on it. That fixed that. I'm really considering this one based mainly on this review , it's a long review, but I was impressed by what I read. Obviously I would buy it directly from Enermax to ensure I got rev two.
What do you guys think..? Any suggestions..? I'm down to the Corsair PC2 8888 ram or the OCZ PC2 9200 and I'm leaning heavy toward the OCZ. I allready have two Raptor drives and I'm planning on setting up a raid 0 config.
The only other thing I need to decide on is a case. I've built all my other comps in Coolermaster Wavemaster cases which I like, but I really don't think they'll get the cooling job handled right with what I'm building now. I'm considering the Tai-Chi or this Coolermaster.
I definately plan on overclocking, I don't plan on watercooling. I've always used aftermarket coolers for the CPU's and Vid cards and will probably do that here as well. So tear it up and give me some advice, I know I've spent a lot of money and will be spending more to finish it, but keep in mind I'm trying to play games like Oblivion at 2560 X 1600 with some eye candy. I also want to ensure I can play whatever might come along as well at least for a little while.
Thanks in advance for looking and sorry for the long post, any advice or critisism would be much appreciated as I have a great deal of respect for Anandtech forum members, Ed.
