Which processor is better?

Now I'm just deciding...which of these processors will go better with this mobo? (I will most likely be overclocking)

3800+ Venice is the one I'd go for.

3800+ (Venice) = 2.4Ghz, 90nm, 512KB L2 Cache
3700+ (San Diego) = 2.2Ghz, 90nm, 1MB L2 Cache

I'd probably go the 3800+. Even though it's clocked higher, it will probably OC better because of the Venice core. It should also perform better before overclocking.

I'd go for the DIEGO

Edit=I had a client so I couldn't finish my reasoning...The Diego is cheaper and if you wanted to save $'s with that Mobo you could spend less than $200US and OC the 3200 Venice CPU to get the 3800 performance but the Diego with the extra cache will give you better gaming and certain app performance if that's what your after...Later upgrade to Dual Cores if Multitasking is what you want

Venice and Diego are basically the same except the diego has more L2 cash. They oc about the same, have about the same temps etc. I would go with the Diego.

I think it's silly to get a CPU for $500, but if that's your cup of tea, I recommend the 3700+ @ 2.2 GHz. You obviously intend to overclock, and 2.2 GHz has more headroom than thy 3800+ @ 2.4 GHz.

Make sure you do a couple of Google searches, though. That 1MB cache might limit the 3700+'s overclocking, in which case you'd want to go with the 3800+. But I'm fairly certain the 3700+ should overclock just fine.

If you HAVE to have a top of the line CPU then go with the San Diego Core 3700+ with 1MB of level 2 cache but if you want bang for the buck go for the "Venice" core like this 3000+ or this 3200 + IMHO .

You gotta ask yourself though, is the $200 really worth the extra 512kb cahce? If you buy a 3200+ Venice and OC it you could save a lot of money.

the 3000 and 3200 can go to 2.6-7 on avg and 2.8+ with the right stuff, which is better than the 3800.
