I am finally leaving the dark side (Intel) and building my first AMD system. The more research I do, however, the less I seem to know about adequate power supplies.
I am torn between:
1. Fong Kai 603 case with an Enermax EG365P-VE-FC or an Enermax EG465P-VE-FC or
2. Antec 1040
The rest of my rig will look like:
Palomino 1.5Gh
Nforce Mobo
Radeon DDR 64
Crucial 512MB 2100
Plextor SCSI CD
Plextor SCSI CDR
2- 20 GB 7200 HDD's (possible Raid)
My concerns are: I am looking for as much stability as possible (I will not OC) and as little noise as possible.
1. The Enermax PS's seem to have a dip in the 5v rail but are quieter than the Antec due in part to the fan control.
2. The Antec 400w PS's seem to be the most stable at 5v but are loud.
So....... how unstable is the Enermax and is really louder than the Antec? Is there a better alternative? The more I read about the 2 power supplies, the more conflicting stories I get. I also just read that Enermax has had a real quality control problem recently with as high as a 40% return history. My concern with switching from Intel to Amd is stability, heat and noise. I would appreciate any help in eliminating these concerns. I am sure they can all be overcome with smart planning.
