As sort of a continuance of the starting topic of this thread I am also trying to decide between graphics cards and am also wanting a 4200 card, so please don't respond by saying I should get an ATI whatever.
The cards I am considering are all 128MB retail versions with VIVO as follows:
MSI Ti4200-VTD8X current price $179
GAINWARD CARDEXPERT GeForce4 TI 4200 128 MB DDR GF4 TV DVI VIVO ULTRA/650XP GOLDEN SAMPLE
current price $166
Leadtek Winfast Geforce4/GF4 TI 4200 VIVO / TI4200
current price $176
Prolink Pixelview GeForce4 TI 4200 128MB AGP TV Out + DVI + VIVO
current price $ 155
The Gainward probably is the fastest of these cards especially since it comes already overclocked, and it
probably can be overclocked higher than any of these cards. Unfortunately you don't really get any extras with this card and you might need to add better cooling.
The Prolink is the new kid on the block but has gotten good reviews and apparently has better factory cooling than any of the other cards. Besides the regular software bundle they give yyou one game CD.
The Leadtek includes a number of games in addition to the usual software.
Video in and out connector cable
- Full version games and utilities bundle include: Tom Claney's Rogue Spear-Black Thorn, Aquanox, Master Rallye and Games Gallery) WinFastDVD, Colorific, 3Deep, True Internet Color and Cult3D.
- Ulead VideoStudio 6 SE DVD or MGI Videowave 5.0 Software for video editing
And finally the MSI included besides the usual software and probably more cable and connectors than most, the following games: 7 in 1 Games Collection
- The Sum of All Fears
- IL-2 Sturmovik
- Serious Sam 2 lite
- Rally Trophy
- Beam Breakers
- Zax: The Alien Hunter
- Oni
As well as retail versions of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon.
I would probably elimante the Prolink simply because it is not well enough known to know about any problems, etc. The Gainward would be next because I don't necessarily care about overclocking as long as it works and since no games come with it. So that leaves MSI and Leadtek as my two major choices.
It looks like MSI has a better game bundle than Leadtek, but I don't really know much about any of the games. Of course I want a good performing card that is problem free and will take the games as a bonus.
Your thoughts on these four cards would be appreciated, especially if you have had experience with any of them. Thanks.
