Which video card for linux

I am building a linux box just to play with. Which video card should I use a S3 Savage4 or a Voodoo3000? I would like for it to use its 3d-acceleration. Not for games just for simple stuff like small opengl programs I write.

I have an S3 Virge, and well it may not have 3D capabilities, but I found it to be a pain in Linux, but my Voodoo 3 card works like a charm.

I am by far not a Linux Novice even, but I would have to say it may depending on what version of Linux you are running and if it will accept either or neither of these video cards....

S3 Virges are so old even XFree dropped support for them, all you can do is use the vesa driver and it seems that Virges have bad/no vesa support.

The V3000 should work, although I can't comment on it because I've never owned one. I did have a V5500 that worked well, even 3D, but the speed wasn't as good as it was in Windows. If at all possible I would recommend an nViidia card, their closed drivers are about on par with their Windows drivers.

These are just spare parts I have here. I will use the Voodoo 3000 I guess.

I don't think there is dri support for the savage4, so i think you'd be much better off with the voodoo3

I used a Voodoo 3000 for a long while with RedHat.
