Which would you get?

Would you get a USB enclosure and a regular hard drive - or one of those prepackaged deals?

What do you recommend to replace an aging backup drive? Thanks! Unfortuantly, money is a concern - so don't go too wild

pre packaged is usualy cheaper, i have seen a USB 1TB for $110 CAD on sale, thats only about $15 more than the cheapest 1TB internal drive i have seen on sale. and most decent enclosures cost more than $15.

I'm just looking in the 250gb range if that helps narrow down better. . .

My total data backup is around 80 gigs now. . . I figure by the time I fill 250 - It'll be time to get a new drive for safety's sake again . . .

Unless you have some specific reason for using USB backup, consider a drive bay solution.

I've been using a StarTech HSD100SATBK Trayless SATA Drive Bay.

It's a cheap and fast direct SATA solution that allows using any SATA drive of any capacity as a removable-drive, completely eliminating USB, eSATA or other externally-cabled solutions and provides true SATA throughput speed.

I use it with WD and Seagate 250GB drives as removable backup devices.

Cheap, easy and fast. Hope this helps!

I've got one of those slim desktops that won't accept extra stuff. . . thats why I'm looking at usb
