White peaches are pretty good for "eating out of hand," but aren't so good for cooking/baking.
Nectarines...I'm not a fan. (close relative of the peach, but NOT the same)
I usually find the yellow ones to be tastier and sweeter, if they're mature enough (if you drop them, they undergo a plastic transformation).
The white ones are more firm though so they make less of a mess.
Try out Asian Pears, they are really sweet. Costco sells the really large ones.
Get yourself some dapple dandy pluots...you will thank me when you do.
I guess there are different kinds.In my experience, white peaches are more tender/delicate than yellow peaches of the same (basic) variety. That's also what makes them not as good for cooking...
