Both women have black parents, so it's funny that they have such "white" features.

You don't get it. According to AT posters, if a black woman is attractive...its because she has "white features". That could either mean that she doesn't have a "'fro" or her skin isn't "ashy" or that she looks "indian".

OR, she could have a white parent. Which makes her un-black....

Welcome to AnandTech by the way.

hmmm my stepmom was black (passed away a couple of years ago)
and my dad is pure "white bread" I never thought he would date outside his race, let alone get married.
surprisingly my family was cool with it. She was awesome. but her family didn't like him because he was white.

Zoe Saldana IS black. She identifies as black. She is a black Latina.

She can identify as whatever she wants, aside from a random few like her Dominicans do not refer to themselves as black. And if you call them black you better brace yourself. The problem is there are all shades of people in the DR. Zoe's a lot darker than Don Omar, but they're both Dominican. Nobody would consider him black, and nobody should consider her black simply because of her skin tone.

The vast majority of women on the site in general reply "very selectively" whereas men reply more often.

Isn't true for my area, I looked up females of all races. And it was like 4:1 for white females who respond often to black females. There were still a lot of both who reply selectively. But black females as a whole on there respond far less.

Where do u live? Its very common in Toronto, when i leave for work/vacation & see how the rest of the world is so segragated its quite sad. Really depressing actually. I've grown up dating women of all races without even batting an eye, took it for granted too. I finally settled with a Japanese girl. I'm mixed background myself, middle eastern & mediteranean. Guess Toronto's just an oasis. It has been voted the most multicultural city in the world, & its always shocking how Americans comment on how mixed it is as if its something completely alien to them.

On my street we have a black couple, chinese interracial, indian couple, a few white couples, another interracial couple (ethiopioan girl & portugese guy) & so on. I dont even consider it unique until i speak with ppl outside Toronto. You'd think its 2013, but some places in the world are still stuck in the 60s.

The problem is there are all shades of black people, some are darker than others, some are very light skinned. Some have long hair, some have short hair. Some have kinky hair, some have straight hair. Saying that a black woman with straight hair and a narrow nose is attractive because she has "white" features is BS. Are we only restricted to having certain "black" features?...and what are those? I am dying to have one of you elaborate on some of your silly notions of what features black women have and what features we don't have.

I'm pretty sure if you asked Zoe Saldana if all Domincans were the same shade of brown and had the same hair texture, you would get a similar answer.

^ Not your standard date material regardless of race.

And certainly not what I think of when I think "average black woman" or even see every day.

i worked with this guy from when i was 15 for like 2 years and had no clue he was dominican until i heard him speaking spanish (with a horrible accent too). always thought he was just a black guy (as in, descendant of africa).

we joke around about it to this day.

also, those trying to deny that the majority of some races have certain physical characteristics/features are delusional.

That's my point.

Posting pictures of movie stars/models/celebrities =! average/every day.

The actress all dressed up for a photo shoot maybe, but the Michonne character seems pretty typical for an average black woman in my experience. Well at least the kind that catch my attention.

Dressed up or not, you can find pictures of them without makeup on, and with regular clothes on.

They're still black women and are very good representations of the different flavors and looks we come in. Danai Guirra is gorgeous and I love her skin tone. She's a very beautiful dark skinned black women and her skin is not "ashy" like that other poster in this thread said.

I think its interesting that you agree that photos of Danai or Kerry Washington don't represent black women, but you have no problem with an immature poster showing two photos of black criminals in an attempt to show what the average black woman really looks like.

I can dig up some photos of meth heads and say that's what the average white woman looks like, but I know better than that.

So, models/movie stars/celebrities AREN'T average black women, but posting a photo of two criminals are?

The black women I meet daily are a lot closer to the mug shots than to celebrities.

Where do you live? Baltimore?

Where I live, I see black women who could be celebrities daily. Sure, there's some tough looking ones...but I've seen tough looking white women too.

The point is, most black women don't look like a mugshot.

A lot of it is class. White trash look trashy for some reason, same as ghetto rats. I've actually puzzled over that, and can't figure it out. Looking good is cheap; it doesn't require nice clothes or anything, yet poor people are generally uglier than wealthy.

That's true, but I'd think that maybe poor people are more worried about not having essential things like food, clothing, and shelter than taking care of their looks.

I've never worn makeup before and I was never really into fashion growing up. My little sister on the other hand spends a lot of money on makeup and clothes....it really starts to add up.

Its not just your face and clothes either, its the hair too. I spend over $60 every 3 weeks or so on hair products.

Women are really high maintenance.

And when you tally everything up...its really debatable if beauty is cheap or not. It really depends on how good you look already

Maybe. I've spent a lot of time around hippies though, which for the most part were rich people acting poor. Even the ones heavy into the lifestyle had something... pretty about them. Dirty hair, ratty clothes, questionable diet... Maybe it takes longer to wear in :^/

No, he went out of his way to find the most trailer trash looking mug shots he could find, that much is obvious.

Manassas.

Also same thing in southern california, northern florida, and central oregon.

I'm not saying black women are ugly, I'm saying the only beautiful ones I've seen are on my TV.
