Who here will be upgrading their pc to a venice core when it comes out on Monday? Also, I am in the market for a used system, so I might buy your old setup off of you. I am looking for an A64 for $80 or a A64 mobo combo that does 2.4ghz. I wish I could spend the money on Venice, but I guess I will have to wait until the dual cores to get it when the price drops.

If they're out then I will, if not then I'll go with a 3800+ "Newcastle". I really can't wait any longer.

Aside from the fact your spending 800 dollars on a processor that we can buy for like 150, no not really!

I don't have a computer now, that's the problem. My old system crashed about 1-1/2 weeks ago, I was going to get the 3800+ "Newcastle" then, but someone told me that the Venice is going to be released on April 4th, so I decided to wait. I've borrowed one of my friend's old P4 to do my work, it's pretty slow, and all this wait is becoming expensive.

looking around i found this

Venice 3000+, Venice 3200+, Venice 3500+ and Venice 3800+ should start shipping on April 4, 2005;
San Diego 4000+ should start shipping on April 15, 2005.

does that mean the fx-57 will be better than these?

WTF, 3800+ Newcastle??? Why???

Ok, get a Winchester (assuming the Venice don't come out) 3200+ or 3500+ tops, OC it slightly to 2.4 or whatever the 3800+ runs at (2.4 is a very slight OC for my 3500+) and save yourself 3 hundred bucks. Sheez.

Probably. The 4000+ is equivilent to the FX-55, and the FX-57 is a step up. I'm not sure, but the FX-57 is going to be San Diego too right? In that case is it a definate step up, and better not only in terms of a higher clock but with the unlocked multipliers found in the complete FX-series, OCing is made easy.

I wouldn't spend the extra money, especially if you aren't going to overclock. Its best feature is unlocked multipliers.

Well, I'm in the DCC business, stability is very important to me, therefore, no OC.

So, you recommend me getting a 3500+ "Winchester" rather than a 3800+ "Newcastle", perhaps I will. I know the Newcastle is an older core, but isn't it still a bit faster than the fastest Winchester (3500+)?

Actually, to a point. The Newcastle 3200+ is clocked at 2.2ghz while the Winchester 3200+ is clocked at 2.0ghz. HOWEVER, the Newcastle 3500+ is clocked to 2.2ghz as well (the Newcastle 3200+ and 3000+ are not in production anymore for socket 939), and the Winchester 3500+ is also 2.2ghz. So this is where the "faster" ends.

Even if you needed stability, get the 3500+. You will barely notice the difference of .2ghz. Last time I had looked at the prices, the 3800+ was around 600 dollars. Now it's about 370. But even still, a 100 dollar save is a great save, especially when you don't lose anything from it.
