Other than a duratec engine block I can't see too many simularities with a 6. Particularly the "ride".

I have a Contour SVT, but that doesn't help you, does it?

He's just saying that the 6 is a similar type car, affordable family sedan w/ some guts.

I have a '93 SHO.....3.0 Liter 5 spd. It has about 190K on it and still going strong. This is one of the best overall vehicles I have ever owned.

The V6 Yamaha lasted only from '89-'95. The V8 Yamaha was from '96-'99 where the whole SHO trim was discontinued. Ford designed the block then shipped off to Yamaha to finish.

The V6 3.2L was only available mated to the auto tranny pushing 220hp/215ft-lbs. The V6 3.0L was available with the manual transmission pushing out 220hp/200ft-lbs torque. The V8 3.4L had 235hp/230ft-lbs torque, but these were slower than the 6-cylinders because of all the extra weight.

Pros:
- Excellent performance.
- High 14s, low 15s in a V6 MTX SHO.

Cons:
- Crappiest auto transmission ever.
- Expensive 60k maintenance on the V6.
- Common cam sprocket failures in the V8.
- Water pump failures.

BTW, visit SHO Forums.

I love it! It is by far the most fun car to drive I have ever had.

Check it out

I'd have to agree w/ Mwilding, my friend has one that is exactly like his Countour SVT, but stock, and it's loads of fun to drive. To be honest, of all the "affordable" 4 doors cars in the same size range, it was the most fun IMHO.

That is it in a nut-shell, but I would also add:

Cons:
- Crappiest manual transmission ever, not at all smooth
- Poorly designed manual clutch, one of the most frequent repairs cited
- Electrical system is prone to various problems (its a Ford)
- Many mechanics are not familiar with the engine's idiosynchracies
- Aftermarket performance goodies available, but all very expensive
- Was "King of the Performance Sedans" in its day, but is unrefined and slow by today's standard (stock trim)

I owned a pristine 94 SHO 5-speed with some mild bolt-on mods for almost two years. It was a fun car, the SHO engine really 'feels' larger than it is, but it is not for a person who doesn't have deep pockets. Ford's published HP/TQ rating was found to be over-rated, BTW. The 3.0L SHO barely hit the 200HP mark on several independent dynometer tests.

My sister is trying to sell her 94 SHO. She owes about $3,000 more than its worth, the dealer saw her coming.

Think I would take a Spirit R/T over a SHO. 224hp 4 banger and although they aren't super reliable either it sounds like its better than the SHO.

Well to be honest thats any car - the manufacturers rate HP at the fly-wheel and not the wheels, when you dyno a car on a chasis then there is a 15% driveline loss.

I'd love to have a Spirit R/T but good luck finding one!

I'm pretty sure tcsenter is talking about corrected flywheel power after being dyno'd.

I looked at the Spirit R/T , SHO and Maxima SE at that time when I was looking for a new sedan. I decided to take the AWD turbo route and went with a Galant VR-4. Still running strong at 139k and modded to ~250hp.

This was corrected for drivetrain loss.

Haven't owned one, but driven and worked on many. I prefer the V6 to the V8, both as driving as well and repairing. I was the only mechanic to work on them at two different Ford dealership before I retired from that career.
