Who pays the bills?

We split some things. Mostly household stuff like electricity, cell phones and rent.

joint accounts... we make almost the same amount anyway... we both throw money from personal into joint when a bill is due.

She was handling the money until recently... she wasn't too good at it, apparently. Now that I've taken it over, things look a bit rosier. I pay all of the bills online, except the credit cards which she still handles.

I pay for the mortgage and all of the utilities. She pays for all of the groceries and items for the house. We usually take turns on the restaurant bills, but I take care of them most of the time. She usually contributes about $600-700 a month total.

It's all "our" money so "we" are paying the bills... but for the most part most stuff we buy goes on my credit card(s), and I pay those online. Utilities she pays with her bank's online bill-pay.

For the first 4 years that we lived together, I paid EVERYTHING except the property tax. The house is in his name only, and NJ does not recognize common law, so it was his responsibility. But I paid for every other thing... including all all furniture, kitchen cabinets, carpeting, lighting, household bills, food... everything.

Two years ago.. my income became lower and I had VeggieFrog's college. So, we split everything 50/50.

Recently, I became unemployeed... with the exception of low paying 25 hours a week at the vets and a couple of hundred a month from another job I do 3 days a month... so he pays the majority of stuff now and I fill in the gaps.

All our money is in joint accounts but she handles all of the bill paying and back reconciling. She was a banker for 15 years. She also does all the taxes. I don't even know how much we have.
