They don't need to remove every single copy of shows from the newsgroups. They just need to make it inconvenient enough for the average person that they won't use the newsgroups to download shows.

For example, try grabbing any recent episode of Game of Thrones off the newsgroups. Unless it's in a password-protected archive, chances are that they've been scrubbed by takedowns already.
