i've been using dual monitors on my g400 for almost 2 years now...i can't live w/out them! i drag aol, icq, MIRC, winamp, EVERYTHING over to the right screen, and leave my main larger screen open for web browsing, writing in word, etc.

i've also found it invaluable if you are writing stuff and want to quote web pages or whatever...just open the web page in the right screen and full screen it and open your word document in the left screen and full screen it and start typing like crazy! SOOOOO many uses.

one tip would be to play with refresh rates if you find the monitors interfere with each other..or separate them by more than you thought you would. i occasionally get scan lines due to interference, but it's really not noticeable at all.

I've been using dual monitors since I got my g400max, almost two years ago. I use it for everythingand I doubt I would be able to go back to a single monitor. The Matrox Dual Head technology rocks, the g400max is almost two years old but still offers the best dual head solution.
To be able to have a webbrowser and SecureCRT (ssh) open and on top simultaneously, or to be able to code and view the result and the debugger without having to minimize the text editor, is brilliant.

I will hopefully be going dual monitors soon so I was wondering if the switching from monitor to monitor is built into os (Win ME) or do you have to have third party software. Also, how does the interface work. Is it anything like virtual desktops in Linux? If so, I can hardly wait.

I have a 21" @ 1600x1200 and 19" @ 1280x960. I hate using my work computer because of the puny 17" monitor. I've been spoiled and can never go back.

as far as the questions about dual monitors with TWO video cards. 98, ME, and win2k all support multiple video cards....most of the people posting here though have ONE video card with 2 outputs

but , for instance, BASARA318, you CAN do dual video cards with a GTS and voodoo5. just have it running on one, then add the second card, specify whether bios should boot up agp or pci card first, and then go into desktop settings and configure each card / monitor separately.

Two 19" on Geforce2 Pro and voodoo3 3k on win2k server here. I heard that running dual monitors with different resolution will cause interferance, better watch out for that if you are planning to run dual with different resolutions.

17" dell monitor @ Radeon LE
15" Apple VisionSync or something like that @ Voodoo 3

wish they made it so if i start up CS it would mirror on the other screen, or at least shut it off so i dont have to do it thru the properties panel.

I did for a while with a banshee AGP and an old virge card back when I only had two 15" monitors. I only use the 19" now with the radeon. I just can't bring myself to looking at that old virge card anymore. I will admit though that I only found it marginally useful at times. I always hated having to drag things over all the time. And some things that I wanted to run on the crappier side of things I couldn't because they were overlays.
I loved it for some time but then just got out of the habit of using it and really didn't want the resource conflicts.

I was at my school's server room and they had about 5 servers and had one monitor, mouse, and keyboard. They had a box so that you could just press a botton and it would switch the monitor, mouse, and keyboard from one machine to the next. Anyone know what these are and how you can get one?

Jasonh100 --

They're called KVM switches. You can pick one up at any major online computer retailer. They're real nice if you have multiple boxes but only one keyboard, mouse, and monitor. You don't have to waste money on peripherals for every machine. They're particularly useful in network situations because you don't waste valuable space with peripherals.

2 15" LCD w/ Leadtek MX dual head.

It is extremely stable w/ Nvidia 11.0 driver.
Not for gaming that is, unless switch off the secondary.
W/ Pinnacle PCTV, watching TV, office work and web surfing is quite nice.

I took both LCD stand off and mount them side by side on the wall.

Hoober:

Thanks a lot! Does KVM stand for Keyboard Video Mouse? Also what is the difference between a manula KVM and a push button? I guess I know what a push button is so what do you have to do if you get a manual?

I'm using TwinView on my Asus Geforce2MX 7100 with 2 22" monitors. Very nice, but the only complaint is that the thing is limited in resolution for some reason, so probably your 2 card solution is a good idea
