This is how it starts! The Russians are taking down our ability to buy Chinese crap 12 hours before the election starts. By morning, we won't be able to "Like" stuff. By evening, we won't have Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime Video/whatever, and we'll be forced to watch as Putin sweeps the election with write-in votes!

Was down for me too. But I hit the link in Google and it worked.

Edit-

Nope, that doesn't work either. Must have been a fluke. Looks like they are having a DDoS or server issues.

Yep ebay.ca down ebay.com working. Interesting.

Traceroute seems fine, so guessing some kind of DDoS attack of sorts?

Code:

Not sure if related but

AT&T -> Level3 critical
Cogent -> Level3 critical

According to this: http://internetpulse.net/

But ebay seems to be hosted through HE which is not in that list, so not sure if HE actually rides on one of those links or what not.

Gateway timeout now for ebay. It did load a few times.

Code:
Gateway Timeout
The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server.

Reference #1.ebaf4543.1478575267.20797d6e

Not every day you see such a major site go down. Kinda curious as to what it is now.

That last DDOS attack affected Level 3. Hmmm....

Funny how this site uses Amazon for DNS, Rackspace for E-mail and apparently Ionity Corporation for the server. But I don't see Ionity Corporation being available anymore in my search. Also, this site uses Windows IIS. LMAO!

You know ASN isn't a server, right? That tells you who their ISP is which is not necessarily who's hosting their site/servers. I'm also not sure what's amusing about it using IIS. IIS still has a pretty big footprint in the business world, even if it's less common on public facing sites.

eBay bought there own ASN's. They run servers that use those ASN's. Fritzo mentioned Level 3. Level 3 isn't eBay's ASN's. Level three might be a hop in the middle though.

This site DOES run Windows. I'll assure you of that. It's footprint I would argue is NOTHING compared with Linux.

A) You'll note I specifically quoted your text regarding this site and at no point said it wasn't running Windows.

B) ASN has absolutely nothing to do with a server. ASN's are for internet routing. Guess what handles routing? I'll give you a hint, it's not servers. An AS is a connected group of one or more IP prefixes run by one or more network operators which has a SINGLE and CLEARLY DEFINED routing policy. This number is used in both the exchange of exterior routing information (between neighboring ASes), and as an identifier of the AS itself. My employer has our own ASN as well. We also own a metric crap ton of public IP's. That doesn't tell you who is actually hosting our equipment.

Thanks for playing, feel free to try again.

Listen. I run an anti-hacker script that blocks large swaths of ASN's like Amazon, Azure, CloudFlare, Digital Ocean, etc, etc. I even block ASN's in CloudFlare and guess what? No server can touch my website. Well, damn near most, not even a VPN. Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc are allowed of course.

To say ASN's are not attached to a hosting provider is asinine. I deal with ASN's almost everyday.

You really seem to have problems with reading comprehension. I've been very specific with the way I've worded things and you seem to skip over most of it. Server is not a generic term for any internet accessible device.

We've got 6+ AS numbers (I'd have to look to see the exact count). You can look at the IP addresses those include. That tells you we control the end routing for those IP's. That does NOT mean we necessarily host the destinations for those IP's. A large portion of those IP addresses end up going to servers in an 3rd party data center over a Level 3 provided internet connection (hence why you'd see Level 3 as the peering partner on many of them), meaning the ASN did not tell you who's actually hosting our equipment which is exactly what I stated.

I'm so glad that you think running your own personal website makes you some master of all things internet related though. I know my experience as a SysAdmin working for a Fortune 500 company, with servers all over the world can't possible compare. If my grandma was still alive, I would have her share her wealth of knowledge of running her own personal site so I would be capable of communicating at your level.
