Wondering about this too dude...any updates?

I've moved to world files to 4 different computers and tried 3 different mapping apps, and they all crap out before it finishes. I think the world is just too big at this point, it's well over 500MB at this point.

I could start a new world, I can map my own personal worlds without a problem. It might be good to start a new world anyway just due to the big Halloween update.

Opinions?

It would be nice to start fresh. If you were to start a new world, it would be cool to have some sort of town layout where every person gets a section in the town to build whatever they want on. There could still be areas to wander off and build in remote areas, also.

I haven't finished my greenhouse yet, and god would I hate to have to start all over again.

It's probably a memory issue. The mapping programs require a large amount of memory, and mapping a 500mb world just makes it worse.

Got a new line run straight from the dmarc to the DSL modem today, so far so good, plus my upstream has almost doubled.

Server is back up, and God willing, will be up a lot more now.

As for a new world, well I have a couple buildings I'm happy with but if you do create a new world that's okay with me. I actually haven't been working on my latest project so I think I'll take some screenshots of it in case there is a new world I can start rebuilding it there.

Maybe setup a poll asking current players on your server what they think?

I can't seem to even get wood from the trees. I am kind of stuck because of that.

After the line fix, I've gone from around 1.3Mbit/sec to a little over 4Mbit/sec on my upstream, which should make it possible to run quite a few more people on the server at once. Before it would start lagging a bit with more than 10 people, I would imagine I could do 20 or more now and it would be a pretty smooth experience.

Think I created a deadzone on the server, luckily it's out in the ocean.

I made a huge glass sphere using the /hsphere command, then i emtpied out the water, dirt, and stone. Then I tried to fix the water right outside of the sphere, which was all weird and not uniform, and then at some point it crashed on me. Now anytime I sail a boat within 100 blocks of that area, the client crashes on me.

If you want to try and see if the same thing happens to you, you can /warp glassdome to get there. I tried removing the glass to see if that would help, but now it's just a weird hole in the ocean.

It was pretty cool before I got cocky tho, lol.

Yea, playing around with RemoveNear has been interesting to say the least. Not sure how I feel about using my newly given (though krakn only knows for how long) OP powers to complete my greenhouse, but it was great eliminating that big stone sphere, or at least most of it.

Photoshop won't load it at all for. Kept saying scratch disks were full so I added all my partitions as options now it just won't open "due to a program error".

I didn't want to use the Windows Picture Viewer because it is such a pile of shit program. Seriously panning and zooming even a 5 MB .jpg makes it seem like I have a Pentium 3 with 256 mb of RAM. So while it did open it, I can't really do anything with it at that zoom level.

Which is weird because PS had no problem at all opening the 20 and 50 MB previous world pictures.

I was a little turned off when I saw it costs money, since I'm a massive cheapskate. You guys playing classic or alpha?

Is it best to just dive into the game or get briefed at least a little beforehand?

Everyone is playing Alpha. There free versions are Creative (building only) or the Survival Test but neither has near the features of the current Alpha.

Even if I never played the game again, I easily got my $14 worth. There is so much more that could happen with the game, plus I like to support the developer (although in this case he's no longer the "poor indie dev").

I would definitely not jump right in. You can read the Minecraft Wiki but I think best is looking at Youtube videos. Check out a series by user "paulsoaresjr" as he does an excellent job. Just watching the first few should get you started.

Just an FYI, /listwarps works for everyone now. Also, first time users can type in /kit miningbasics to get an initial set of tools.

If there are any other commands the you feel everyone should have access to, let me know and I'll consider adding them.

Also, with a few exceptions, anyone that was an op before has been made an op again. I've separated out ops from admins, so if you're an op and missing a command you feel you should have, let me know. Thanks.

What are you using to convert it? I have the isometric map, but it's 125MB as a png, I'd like to convert it to a jpg before I upload it.
