man, you guys made the world/map so retarded. lol
And yeah, if Krakn makes a new world at some point, please not run off for 30 minutes in one direction.
That's sweet. I'm looking forward to see what kind of cool roller coasters people come up with. Also looks like notch is fixing Minecarts in SMP for the next update today or tomorrow? http://notch.tumblr.com/

And yeah, if Krakn makes a new world at some point, please not run off for 30 minutes in one direction. I can see going a bit away to build or discover, but even 10 minutes out you can get a good bit away. It probably blows up the map size a lot.
What is currently bugging me is that I went, oh maybe 5 minutes or so north of the spawn, walked in a straight line until i found an area I liked. There was I mountain or 2 that I could cut into, and a little lake, and it was all good. Fast forward maybe a week or so and then there were like 2-3 people building other, large structures within view of my stuff, which was the whole thing I was trying to avoid. If Krakn does fire up a new server, I may build a huge torched tower to emphasize the mine-ness of the area or something.
Build a wall around your area. That's what I ended up doing. Someone decided to make their house 10 blocks away from mine so I put up a huge wall all around my area.
It's one thing if you build close to spawn; that's like asking other people to build next to you. It's another thing if you go a good distance away from spawn, but people still come next to you and build.
Minecraft LARP. Pretty lame but I thought it was funny.

This worries me. An indie developer frowning upon mods seems a little hypocritical.First of all, most “mods” that add new features to the game are in a very gray area legally, and I frown upon them. Most of them add really cool new features, though. It’s highly likely that something like the bridge mod will make it into the game.

Well I'm sure given the popularity he needs to look out for his IP. I seen some posts on the Minecraft forums with Java code which unless the person just wrote up as an example, maybe they used some kind of decompiler to get it? He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who wants to lock down everything, and as evidence he seems to have just put in some great support for 3rd party textures. I can understand him wanting to control the features of Minecraft at least until he gets a more polished product where he could put in some proper support for mods. This worries me. Minecraft users go wild building CPUs in their virtual world (video)
So, apparently this is what a functioning 16-bit arithmetic logic unit looks like... at least when it is designed in Minecraft. And that ain't the half of it! It seems that there are a whole bunch of folks who are taking the game, with its avatars, pitchforks, and immense landscape, and building computers and the like. Indeed, there is also a complete 8-bit CPU out there, which takes binary machine code and sends output to a line of torches. While we'd rather spend our time teaching our avatars to breakdance in Second Life, we do admire the hard work that clearly went into these projects. For a tutorial on the 8-bit CPU, hit up the source link. For more info on either of these projects, check out the folks' YouTube pages -- we've thoughtfully included the videos after the break.
