Robert A. Heinlein is my all time favorite, i have read everything he wrote, as far as i know, although i might have missed a few of the shorts he did for the sci fi magazines back in the 40's

Nope, I like him as well.

i'm a fan as well. read most of his books and love the way he develops his stories and the provincial nature of most of his work. people say he's too depressing but i argue that steinbeck romanticizes the hard lives of his characters.

my favorite author is richard ford. he's very verbose but his writing reveals an intricate understanding of the male's psyche. its very empathetic in nature if you are male.

I almost never read fiction, unless it's based on history.

The last book I read was "The First Directorate". It was written by one of the higher ups in the KGB, Oleg Kalugin. Very good read if you're into cold war stuff.

The last ficiton book I read was Red Mars back in like 1998.

Palahniuk has been one of my favorite new authors, but I really wish he could vary his work. I've heard Lullaby is yet another story conforming to his formula (with a bit of "The Ring" thrown in as well). Don't get me wrong, his satire is (usually) on point, but using such similar characters and plot devices gets old...I'll still read Lullaby, though.
